Owning this 1968 Ford Fairlane doesn't feel like buying a car...It feels like joining a legacy. There have been only two previous owners and both of them have treated this coupe like they were custodians of history.1968 was a radical design departure for Ford's intermediate line of cars. The vertical quad headlights of the previous year were now turned horizontal and integrated into a new full-width chrome grille. The body design had a bit more of a kick-up at the rear which gave it a more sporty personality. Overall this new Fairlane was arguably one of Ford's most attractive designs of the 1960s because it offered an elegant simplicity that had a hint of European influence. Green was a popular color in this era but this coupe's factory-correct shade of Highland Green looks fantastic today compared to some of the pea soup colors offered back in the day. Plus this hue is well complemented by the optional black vinyl roof. Another attractive feature are the stylish 14-inch Deluxe wheel covers. This is not a GT model like the chrome circles suggest but that's a good thing considering that trim level would have eliminated some of the pristine brightwork on this coupe. This Fairlane left the factory with the same Parchment tan interior seen here. Despite seating for the whole family (six in total) the previous owners kept sticky fingers away from the two-tone upholstery and the matching dash. In fact one look at the quality of this light-colored vinyl with cloth inserts and you'll understand how well this car was preserved over the years. It still even has its original AM radio and heat/defrost setup. The reason why we like this Fairlane so much is that it has a few fun paradoxes. This is a coupe built for American-style cruising but the dashboard's four round gauge pods make drivers feel like they were in an Italian sports car. Also this comes with cold-blowing factory air conditioning but the cool pillar-less hardtop design will make you never want to roll up the windows. This coupe was optioned with Ford's C-code 289 V8 motor. It's the same two-barrel carburetor unit that was available in the Mustang so this has plenty of power to keep the dual exhaust making the proper throaty sounds. On the more practical side the optional three-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission is flexible enough that you can take this car everywhere from around town to long trips down the highway. Although if you were to take this Fairlane on an extended road trip you might just be the first to do so. According to the odometer this coupe has averaged less than 1800 miles per year in its five decades on this earth. This thoroughly preserved Fairlane is looking for its third owner to help it cross the threshold into its golden anniversary. Who knew you could drive history that could be this affordable? Call now!!
