Description

1965 Mustang Fastback “Old School 101”

Imagine being able to travel back in time and studying Mustangs that were on the streets during the late 1960's through the 1970's. Almost everything was about performance and handling . As a result a great number of the Mustangs on the street looked like this car and the "Bullitt" car to some varying degree. These cars were all business !!! That is what we mean by " OLD SCHOOL 101"!!

To me this car is the epitome of the way 1960’s and 70’s Mustangs looked. Let’s take a good look at this COOL car. First of all it is lowered all around which gives it a definite “all business” look! Next everything is taken out of the grill mouth. This does two things; # 1- it looks VERY aggressive (like a 289 or 427 Cobra) # 2 – it makes more fresh air go into the engine compartment which is always a good thing. Another benefit is that it will make your car run cooler. The cooler a car runs the better it is for the horsepower you are creating.

Then there are the American Mag wheels. These were incredibly popular in the 60’s and 70’s. They look really MEAN!!

This car reminds me a great deal of the Steve McQueen “Bullitt” Mustang. It is just an earlier car than the original “Bullitt”. It is the same color the same American Mag Wheels and the same aggressive “open” mouth grille. That “Bullitt” car is responsible for the BEST “CHASE” scene ever made!!

FYI....In 2007 Bullitt was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being " culturally historically or aesthetically significant."

This aggressive machine is not an original GT as they were “A” code or “K” code cars only. This car started life as a “C” car that is 289 2 BBL car. Is has had a tremendous amount of money spent on it to make it go fast and handle well.

It now has an Edelbrock Aluminum Hi-Rise intake (Edelbrock made the Hi-Rise Intakes for the 1965 and 1966 Shelbys.) It has an Edlebrook 4 BBL Carb plus Dual Exhaust with GT Valance and exhaust tips. It appears that has Rare “K” Code exhaust manifolds on it also which are very free flowing. The fan has been taken off the front of the engine so that it does not drag down the engine. It now also has a thermostat which operates independently of the engine and pulley system.

This Mustang is now equipped with power front disc brakes and bigger front sway bar and a rear sway bar has been added. Stiffening braces i.e. export braces and Monte Carlo bar have been added also. These are the same items used by the ’65 and ’66 GT 350’s so you know they work!! Someone also went to great length to add frame connector to the underside of the car which really helps the handling of the car.

This cool Mustang now has all the options on it that a Factory GT had other than the Fog Lights. If you are interested in this car and you want the Fog Lights we could probably work something out on the installation of these items.

Please notice how nice the engine compartment is on this car. We did some serious cleaning and detailing in the engine compartment and also added the proper Concourse radiator hoses Autolite Battery cover plus all the special decals that the car originally came with. It has become increasingly hard to find these early (1965-1966) Mustangs which tells me there will be a price increase in them very shortly. If you like this Fastback do not hesitate as we normally do not keep them very long. The biggest problem we have is FINDING these cars NOT selling them. Please contact me with any and all questions.
