1970 Mustang Mach-1 numbers matching California survivor. In 2005 I received a lead on this car and called the owner. He told me that the car had been parked since 1985 and was really nice. I went to Buena Park to look at it and it had the original California blue plates with 1985 tags. The car was as describe, nd my intent was to flip it. However after getting the car up and running, t was so enjoyable I decided to keep it. I had never owned a 351 Cleveland Mustang before. Around town it drives like 66 GT A code, hen you step on it to get on the freewa, MG, t just gets up and goes. When I got the car home the power steering, rans and brakes were leaking every where.Pulled the FMX trans had it rebuilt and found the VIN stamped on the trans. Replaced all power steering hoses, ontrol valve, nd power ram. Brakes, aster cylinder, aliper, pad and rear brakes were rebuilt. Put in a new factory exhaust from NPD. Fresh fluid for the rear differential. The original carb was sent to Pony Carburetors for rebuild. While putting a new starter I noted that the casting code on the block matched the build date July 70. The engine tag is bolted to the intake manifold and engine lift hooks are are bolted to the exhaust manifolds. I believe the original motor has never been out of the car. The original radiator and fan shroud were pulled out and set aside and come with the car.I found a date code correct rebuilt water pump and that comes with the car. This not an original shaker car. I purchased a correct 351C shaker and hood and I still have the hood and air cleaner. The car has had one repaint and all the sheet metal is original to the car except the rear valance which is a Ford part. The rear quarter panels had small rust holes at the bottom of the wheel wells, his typical of a California car that has been a daily driver. Patch metal was welded in and quarters repainted. The left front fender has some bondo around the wheel lip. All the glass is original to the car. The interior was in nice shape at the time of the purchase however the driver side seat foam was shot. That seat was reupholstered. Purchased a reconditioned rim-blow steering wheel from Bill Herdon's Pony Warehouse. Also replaced cracked dash pad. The original AM radio was in the trunk and put in the dash and works.
The lower metal dash has a hole drilled for a switch for the after market radio.I have purchased a the correct metal dash that will come with the car. The front suspension to have been replaced in the early 80's with Ford parts.I have not touched the AC and it blows hot air. I have only put about 3000 miles on the car in the last 10 years. I have a video of the car that shows it running. Please feel free to contact me and I will send you a link of the video: Bruce (310) 594-1969 (prefer texting). This car is a great candidate for concourse restoration or drive as it is.
