Description

Hello! For sale is my 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL Convertible Z code 390. My wife and I just had our second baby and it is time for my Galaxie to find a new home. I just took over 80 pictures of her and will gladly provide more. I will also do my best to answer all questions that I can - I don’t know a lot about cars. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions!

My Galaxie - I bought this car in June of 2015. I had been looking for a Galaxie to replace my dream car that was wrecked 10 years ago. I was very picky and found just the one I wanted, nd luckily close by. The owner had the car restored in 1997. It was painted Rangoon Red. He told me that the engine was the original 390. The body is stellar, s you can see by the pictures. The chrome is complete and shines bright. The interior is immaculate, xcept for a tiny hole in the driver's seat. The car came with a documentation of an appraisal from 1997 showing the car had 17k miles on it and valued it at 28k. The owner said he had her sitting in the garage and only drove the car to local fairs and car shows. When I bought her she had 24,600 miles on her. I can’t be sure if it has rolled over 100k or not, ut I would assume not because of the appraisal. I snatched her up and drove her home with plans to finish the little that was left of the restoration.

About a month after driving the car (very little, 00 miles or so) I noticed that there was a small oil leak on my garage floor. I took the car into Warren Automotive to have it checked out. It turned out that because the car had sat so long, nd had paper gaskets, hat the engine block had started to corrode. The mechanic was certain that it was not the original engine as I was told (mad!) and that I could rebore what I had or replace it. I chose to replace it with a S&J engines Inc. 390 core. to keep it a 390 Z car. I also have invested over 5k in engine work and parts. I will list that below. I have not changed anything on the interior since I have owned it. The previous owner kept the car garaged 100% of the time. I have also kept the car garaged since I have owned it. She is about to roll 25k miles! The steering wheel is not upside down, t was just turned when I parked it :)

About the Car:

  • Replace the working Generator with an Alternator.

  • Brand new engine gaskets and hoses professionally installed

  • New Thermostat

  • All four windows work, eal and have no cracks

  • 3 speed automatic

  • brand new starter

  • Clean title - no brands - Vin matches car and title. Z code car!

  • New top, t is very tight and can be difficult to close. It does seal, ut sometime needs to be in the sun to lose up. The electric top works great, ut hangs up going back up on the passenger side. If you lift it with your hand it will go right up. You can see in the picture that there was a rip in the top. The previous owner told me someone vandalized the car and he had it fixed.

Pros:

  • She drives like a dream! The 390 can really get up! With the top down in the summer you will get a thumbs up from just about every car you pass. Have fun telling everyone “she’s not for sale” as you get a million offers!

  • There isn’t much if anything to fix on this car - she is parade ready!

  • The interior is immaculate! Will shine up really nice! New carpets and red/black floor mats

  • windows are super clear and clean!

  • The Radio Still works and sounds great!

  • Car has an Oregon Collector plate on it that can be transferred to you (if you live in Oregon). You do not have to re register the car (after initial registration).

Neutrals:

  • She does have some paint chips. I tried to take pictures of every little one. There isn’t many

  • She runs pretty hot. Perfect on the highway. If you get stuck in traffic she gets really hot. I was told this is because the new engine isn’t broken in yet.

  • The linkage is off a little on the transmission. Some times to start the car you have to turn the key all the way over and press the gear shift over to the right. She fires right up though!

Cons:

  • The Clock doesn’t work - good luck finding one that does!

  • I’m not sure if the heater works

  • There is a spider web crack in the paint on the hood. I took a picture of it. It is hard to notice, ut visible.

  • The light behind the speedometer needs to be replaced

  • The horn doesn’t work. It needs to have a new bushing installed. I ordered two of them and will include them with purchase. I don’t know how to install them.

I will also include:

  • Les Schwab receipts for the tires

  • original generator - still works!

  • bag of matching screws to redo the interior - I bought them, ut it doesn't really need them.

  • 1964 galaxie original owners manual!

  • 1964 galaxie shop book

  • A custom car cover for the galaxie - cost me over $300!

  • All receipts that I have from engine work

  • 1997 appraisal showing miles and 28k appraisal.

  • ‘Light’ Bezel to replace interior one that is cracked
