Description

1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible

Beautiful D-Code baby bird finished in a nut and bolt, rame off concours style! Fitted with both tops, ower steering, ower disc brakes, ack-up lights, ord-O-Matic transmission and more! One of the most exquisite examples that money can buy!

Released in 1955, he Thunderbird had created a new vehicle niche: the personal luxury car. Equipped with big motors, ots of standard features, lush interiors and comfortable suspensions, he Thunderbird was in a class all its own. For many, t was the quintessential road trip car for two. As with most automakers in the 50s, he car was drastically updated every year, ith new sheet metal and new options. The best yet debuted for ’57, ith porthole hardtops and the biggest fins yet! Sales rose to a three year high of 21,380 and they still remain highly collectible to this day!

We couldn’t be more excited to represent this 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible! The car is finished in trim tag correct VE – Flame Red with White convertible top over XK – Colonial White. Under the hood is the original D-code 312ci V8 and Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission! Options on this particular car include positive action wipers, ower brakes, eater / defroster, ack-up lights, ender skirts, il filter and more! The car rides on painted steel wheels with Thunderbird hubcaps and wide whitewall Diamondback radial tires!

The car was purchased in 2011 from an elderly coupe in Jefferson City, issouri. They were moving to Arizona and had owned the car since 1961. Almost immediately began an intensive frame-off councours level restoration! Truly the result of a no-expense-spared effort, very angle of the car will appear as good as or better than new. To make sure the car was done to the proper judging standard, he previous owner purchased the Classic Thunderbird Club International restoration manuals to use as a platform. The car was stripped to bare metal by local specialist shop Donovan Auto Body and finished in a correct single-stage Uno HD acrylic urethane fashion. Similarly, he chrome was sent off to Gateway Plating for refinishing. The car wears a fully fresh interior and dash and all cockpit trim pieces are finished to appear as new. We have all receipts for this car and in addition to the aforementioned, nclude: transmission overhaul, ifferential rebuild, indow regulators and restoration of doors, pgraded disc brakes and all stainless lines/components, uspension and all bushings/sway bars/components, uel system, ank and stainless delivery lines, eat foams, arpet, ll glass, adio (now an AM/FM KHE unit), xhaust, ard top refurbishment including glass and headliner, ooling system overhaul including new water pump and lines, iring harness and more! Power steering was also added during the restoration. The engine was professionally disassembled and rebuilt with factory components by US Auto Plus of Bethalto, llinois. At this time, he 312ci Y-Block had two additional cooling passages drilled between the middle cylinders for added cooling in the T-Birds smaller engine bay. The crew at this engine shop was known in the 50s and 60s for building 312ci race applications; their suggestion to aid cooling for the purpose of driving has resulted in a car that doesn’t overheat on even the hottest days.

All said and done, he previous owner has just shy of $100,000 invested in this show-ready car. A stack of receipts is available from Casco, oncours Parts, ill’s Thunderbird Center, hunderbird Headquarters and Larry’s. Also included are manuals, ooks, iterature, any reference/parts catalogs, riginal invoice, riginal tonneau cover, ar cover and clear bra applied under the rear convertible top latch. Of note, he soft top is an aftermarket unit but we are very impressed by the way it fits. This car starts, dles, uns, ccelerates, rakes and rides like new. Even the bottom of the car is in wonderful shape, lear-coated and polished to a high gloss. We are confident that the next owner of this automobile will be nothing but thrilled at every opportunity to show and drive it. We would invite interested parties to call with additional questions! Thanks for looking!
