This is my 1991 Honda CRX HF almost completed project car. With my wife going back to work and our 3 kids involved in tons of extracurricular activities, need to finally give it up for a more practical vehicle. I picked this guy up about a year and a half ago and have been slowly bringing it back to life. My goal was to bring this car back to stock condition as it has great (~45-50 mpg) fuel economy. Engine was running but very rough, o, complete engine rebuild was performed. All work was performed by myself and a Master Honda Mechanic. Engine was completely disassembled and rebuilt. New components include:
Engine: Piston rings Camshaft bearings All gaskets and seals Cylinder head complete rebuild and milling All belts Water pump Clutch kit Alternator Oxygen sensor PCV valve NGK spark plugsK&N permanent air filter with spare elementBattery All engine mounts Both CV axles A/C system has been rebuilt with the following components: Compressor Condenser Drier/Accumulator Expansion valve A/C system is fully pressurized but not blowing cold for some reason. I have not had a chance to troubleshoot this system yet, ut hopefully an easy fix for someone.
Brake system was also completely rebuilt including new: Front rotors and pads Rear shoes and hardware Rear wheel cylinders Master cylinder New tires (General Altimax RT43 175/70R13) were used and an alignment was performed.
A new Honda windshield was also installed as the old one was cracked.
The exhaust system was also mostly replaced including new: Muffler B-pipe Tailpipe Clamps and seals Interior: The hatchback area was very dirty and faded, o all panels and trim pieces were removed, leaned and painted with color matched paint. I still have half a can of the paint which has the formula for the color for re-ordering and will be included with the vehicle. The center console area and e-brake handle cover were also painted due to fading. The original seats were in poor condition, o a seat swap with some early 2000’s Acura Integra seats was performed with great results. Original CRX seat pans were reused as they fit in the car and mate to the Acura seats very well. The dash is very good condition with no cracking or fading. The door panels are the only areas I did not yet get to for a good cleaning. Passenger is in pretty good condition, river is a bit more dirty. A new speedometer cluster was installed due to the old one having illumination problems. The new one had a starting odometer of 51,961. For some reason, he speedometer is not currently working, his was also the case for the old speedo. I have been told a new speedometer cable may fix this. The check engine light will come on after a mile or two of driving due to the non-working speedometer, ut will reset when the car is turned off. The car was purchased with 233,400 miles on it. So, ot many miles have been put on it since the rebuild (<1000), but it runs great. Interior carpet was completely removed and steam cleaned. A dynamat competitive product was also installed over the entire interior from the hatchback to the firewall and noise absorbing padding insulation was installed in empty voids in rear wheel well and open body panel areas where possible for increased quieting. Doors have not been done, ut the car is much quieter than before. The climate control is cracked and will likely need to be replaced. It works fine for using the dial to change the temperature and pushing selector buttons for mode changes and the A/C switch works, ut as stated, oes not blow cold at this point. I have seen this panel sold on eBay between $100-$200. I do have a metal faceplate cover for the climate control panel that will be included with the vehicle.
There is also a cargo cover included that needs some rehab. Good for concealing things in the hatchback area if necessary.
Exterior: There is no rust on the car as it has lived its life in the south. The car has never been hit in the front or the rear. It has original bumpers and body panels. There was an impact in the driver’s side rear quarter panel and that will have to be addressed. When I bought the car from the previous owner, e also included another complete rear quarter section of another white CRX as I show in the pictures. This section will also be included with the car, ut plan for somewhere for this section to be put for transit. I pulled the vehicle on a U-Haul trailer with my minivan and put the extra section in the back of the minivan, t worked fine. A body guy could easily fix the damaged area with this section. The dent behind the driver’s door does not allow the fuel filler panel to stay latched, but it is easily operable anyway. For some reason, am only able to put about 7 gallons in the 10 gallon tank, ot sure why, ut I can still get 300-350 miles on that much gas at each fill up. I am told a new fuel sending unit might be needed and is a fairly easy fix as well. The driver’s side front quarter has a slight crease in it, ut not anything major. No other body issues except for a small dings and dents normal for a 25 year old car. The driver door stop has become disconnected but is included, s well as a spare. I am told fixing this is fairly easy with some minor welding. All exterior trim pieces missing for the driver’s door are also included with the vehicle, see pics.
Some new Honda OEM and other parts are also included including: Both D & P door rubber seals Both D & P roof rain sill covers New belts and gaskets I did not used in engine rebuild that were from previous owner Other spare parts included: Driver’s door hinges Driver’s door handle Driver’s interior handle and connecting rod Driver’s seat beltSee pics for more.
I intended for this car to be my daily driver as I have a 50 mile commute. Since then, I have hooked up with a car pool and due to my wife and I both working, I need to give the CRX up. It drives great and gets great mileage, 5-50 mpg. There is a small bit of wind noise from the damage behind the driver’s door, ut no leakage occurs when it rains. All the trim pieces that are not on the car currently are included with the vehicle for reassembly. They were left off for when the car was ultimately painted. The driver’s door window is tinted, ut it is old and peeling and purple and will just need to be removed. Overall, t has become a great car. Just looking for a good home to finish off the job I started to get it back to the condition it deserves to be in. Feel free to email with any questions, ’m sure I’ve forgotten some things, ut can try to answer any additional questions you may have.
