Up for sale is my All-SoCal (less SoFlo for the last 3 years) 1994 Jaguar XJS Coupe with the venerable AJ6 4.0L I6 engine. These late-build '94 Jaguars are considered to be the most dependable of all years because they came from the factory with all the '95 upgrades including electronics, AC (R134), and transmission upgrades but were the last few to keep the bullet-proof Jaguar AJ6 4.0L I6 engine. This engine series was originally rolled out in the mid-80's and every year, Jaguar tweaked it until they achieved perfection in the late '94 series - notice the engine oil filler cover is black and is on the valve cover and not red and off-side the cover (as early-'94 and earlier builds had) this is a tale-tale sign this was the last batch of the most highly updated AJ6 engines ever produced. The transmission was also unique to the last model years being a supremely reliable, German-built ZF4HP24. The '95 model year had the AJ16 engine whose history has not proven to be half as dependable as the simpler, more robust AJ6. The 1995-only "AJ16" engine in the XJS was a very poor decision because of it's magnesium head that caused all sorts of problems. It was a bean-counter at Ford that decided to curse the XJS and XJ6 with this engine for 2 short years before being replaced by an even worse Ford/Jaguar derived V8. My Jaguar Master Mechanic who has spent nearly $6,300 servicing this car with all factory parts, swears this is the one and only year a XJS was truly at it's pentacle of reliability and performance (it's only 0.8 sec slower to 60 and 1.2 sec slower to 120 than the much less reliable and thirstier 6.0 V12 of the same era) but the 4.0L handles SO much better due to its lighter weight and better front/rear weight distribution. Only the '94-'95 Coupes had all of Jaguars, "Full Facelift" or Jubilee treatment as they called it in the UK as it celebrated its final run after nearly 21 years. This treatment includes full body colored bumpers (no rubber like on pre-'94s), round leather shift knob (early '94 have a black "T" grip and old-style AC controls), new keyless entry/alarms system, and they still look as timeless as they did today as they did 22 years ago! These Coupes are super RARE - while almost 600 '94 and '95 convertibles made it to the US, only about 221 Coupes came each year making this car a true modern-day classic. Research Hagerty's and other sources and they all state that this car is on their top 3 list of undervalued cars for collectors to buy now and hold onto.
A little history about the car and about me: I am a certifiable car nut. I usually spend months to even years doing my research and finding a car that I can both afford to buy and restore to daily-driver reliability. I enjoy the cars for several years and then move on the my next project (which is currently a '94 Porsche 968 Coupe). I've done this for over 20 years and and have owed over 15 classics like this special XJS.
I started my search for one in late 2012 and found exactly what I was looking for in October of 2013. The car was originally purchase by a lady in Beverly Hills from the oldest Jaguar dealership in the West, Hornburg Jaguar Inc. (YES - this is a CA smog-compliant 50-state car) All services were performed by them per the maintenance book until she traded it at 46K miles. Owner number 2, also a Los Angelean had the car until he traded it and I purchased it from a small dealer of vintage cars in LA in October of 2013 after a private PPI was performed on it by a Jaguar specialist in LA. I had the car drop shipped from LA to Jag Repairs of Pompano Beach, South Florida's only Jaguar-only vintage and XJS specialty shop. Owner and certified Jaguar master mechanic, Mitch Levin drove the car for almost a month and initially spent $4,500 on replacing any seal, hose, or module that he thought might need replacing in addition to replacing all filters, fluids, spark plugs, wires, break pads, engine and subframe bushings etc. An additional $1,500 in regular maintenance has been spent since I first purchased the car to make it 100% like new mechanically. Very few Jaguars I've seen on eBay have had nearly $6,300 in mechanical restoration over a 3-year period but I can promise you, at 22 years of age, they will ALL need these critical services - I have made this investment so you don't have to - remember this when you see others going for $5-$7K!!!!!
All original books, records, radio code cards, and all three original keys and factory remote fob are included! You can review photos of many of my service records below and see that I told my mechanic "money no object, make it 100% right" when I purchased it as I'd searched for a year to find one in great shape, NEVER WRECKED, all Southern CA car, NO SMOKERS, and in this rare color combination. Finding these most reliable late-model AJ6 XJS Coupes in excellent condition is becoming challenging because most have not been serviced well or have sat undriven (watch out for those super low mileage examples) for long periods of time causing dry-rot, seal and bushing disintegration, and internal drivetrain corrosion. This car is exactly as it should be covering low but frequently mileage since new. I can e-mail you a the clean AutoCheck as I have it saved as a PDF
The car has the upgraded factory Jubilee diamond cut alloy wheels with nearly new ContinentalExtreme DW tires with less that 900 miles on them. I've only driven the car about 3K miles in my 3 years of ownership using it mostly as weekend cruiser around Miami where even here in the land of the ultra exotic car, she still turns a lot of heads. ICE COLD A/C (a must here in South Florida) and a great heater as well! ALWAYS garaged at home and at work. Great factory-original high end sound system with factory CD/Changer. All the fiberoptic nighttime illuminations works perfectly too! I would trust this car to drive coast-to-coast without a hiccup. She shifts smoothly, cranks perfectly, idles so quietly you barely know she's on, and cruises at ungodly speeds on the freeway effortlessly. She doesn't leak, smoke, or consume a drop of oil. You are welcomed and encouraged to have a Pre-Purchase Inspection done on the car as I'm sure you'll not be disappointed!
(Negatives: The car was professionally repainted probably in the last 5-6 years in the factory correct black and it is in stunning condition other than the following places: there are some minor scratches on the trunk and RH rear quarter panel and a dime-size door ding (all shown in the photos below). The trip odometer stopped working shortly after I purchased the car and I've not removed the cluster to have the gear replaced. The odometer works perfectly though - THAT IS IT!!!
Enjoy all the high quality images below. I've taken them in a variety of lighting conditions so you can truly appreciate the outstanding beauty and quality of the car. I am a motivated seller as we are considering a move from Miami to Los Angeles in the near future. Remember, I HAVE SERVICED THIS CAR TO THE HILT SO YOU WON'T HAVE TO! eBay member since it's first year in 1998 and have 100% feedback including many of my collector cars I've sold here!
