Description

Very rare left hand drive Daimler DS420 limousine. Complete and running. Manufactured by Vanden Plas.
This car is made by the British company named Daimler Company Limited. It is not related to the German company, aimler. This Daimler only made limousines used by the British government and the royal family. They were also used in Great Britain for limousines andhearses. Today, hey are commonly used for wedding limos in Great Britain.
Jaguar provided the chassis and drivetrain. The Jaguar engine has been easy to buy parts for.
This car was a response to the Rolls Royce Phantom V limousine. It is precisely the same length and width, nd shares similar interior dimensions and accoutrements.
Here is the Wikipedia link for the car: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daimler_DS420.
I've been researching these cars and it appears this one was used for a British ambassador to North American country, erhaps US. It has an original flag mount on the front fender. These were not for sale in the US but the left hand drive means it was made for use over here. The left hand drive is very rare. Only about 4000 of these were ever built and almost all of these were right hand drive. It appears from this website that only 71 LHD were ever made. http://www.vandenplas.com/daimler/ds420.htm/
I recently purchased this car at a collector's auto auction. I planned on using it for a wedding limo. I've changed my mind since I have two classic Rolls Royce's being restored so I shouldn't start a third restoration at this time.
I just spent $3000 on mechanicals to get it running nice. Have receipts. I had a new electronic distributor installed. This is much more reliable and easy to maintain than the old rotor and points distributor. I also had a new water pump, nd new ignition coil, nd a new fuel pump installed. It starts immediately and runs okay now.
Car is complete and running but needs refinishing. The body has some surface rust and some bondo. Doors are solid and align well.
Please note my 100% perfect feedback. I've bought and sold a few cars on eBay in years past so I take pride in being as accurate and open as possible. No surprises.
