Description
1959 Jaguar XK150 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe Chassis no. S 835883 220 bhp, 781 cc inline six-cylinder engine, our-speed manual transmission, ndependent front suspension with wishbones, oil springs, orsion bars, nd anti-roll bar, igid rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, nd four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 102 in. One of just 1,070 Fixed Head Coupes built for the 1959 model year Equipped with the desirable 3.8-liter and four-speed manual gearbox A beautifully restored example in excellent colors Bowing in mid-1957, he XK150 was Jaguar’s response to the growing U.S. demand for more comfortable and refined sports cars. Initially offered in fixed head and drophead versions, roadster arrived 10 months later in March 1958. The final iteration of Jaguar’s XK-series, he XK150 featured higher front fenders, wider grille, curved one-piece windshield, nd perhaps most significant, unlop disc brakes on all four wheels. The low-cut door lines of the XK120 and 140 were discarded for a more conservative shape, hile the basic XK chassis remained albeit with an upgraded 3.4-liter twin-cam six as standard equipment. Only the boot lid was shared with the previous XK140. Inside all models received a padded dash top, ofter and wider seats, nd a windscreen that wrapped around the cockpit – all in the interest of appealing to American buyers, aguar’s largest market. Perhaps, ost unique, s the boot badge worn by all XK150s, oldly reminding all of Jaguar’s 1951, 953, nd 1955-57 victories at Le Mans. Though a bit heavier than its predecessors, he car remained a capable performer. To accomplish this, aguar made available in late-1959 a larger 3.8-liter motor with twin SU HD8 carburetors producing 220 horsepower compared to the standard model’s 3.4-litre affording 210. Contemporary road tests quoted 0-60 mph at 8.3 seconds, ¼-mile time of 16.7 seconds at 82 mph, nd a top speed of a comfortable 126 mph. The XK150 proved to be the most popular XK of all with nearly 7,929 units built from 1957 through the end of production in calendar year 1960. Of these, 070 were Fixed Head Coupes for the 1959 model year. Roughly 75 percent of the cars were exported proving the ever-increasing importance of the U.S. and other markets to Jaguar. This Signal Red Fixed Head Coupe is finished with a biscuit leather interior and is described by the consigner as a great driving example. It has nice exterior chrome, s well as five new Vredestein blackwall radial tires mounted on five equally new Dayton chrome wire wheels. The owner also notes that the car has a new exhaust system. Most recently, he top-end of the engine has been comprehensively overhauled including a valve job, ebuilt carbs, nd a new radiator. In addition, fter this work was completed, he engine compartment was detailed. This is the ideal XK150 for vintage events, CNA tours, r simply arriving in style no matter where you go.
