Description

You are bidding on a well preserved 1985 Jeep CJ-7 Laredo. Beautiful and clean inside and out. it has been a reliable daily driver since I purchased it in 2012. I'll try to give you as much detail as possible in this ad. but feel free to ask questions or request additional photos. THE GOODMuch of this 30-year old Jeep is original. and in remarkably good shape. The interior is in much. much better condition than most other CJ's. and would easily rank within the top 5%. The instrument panel. dash pad. leather-wrapped grab bar. pedals. shift levers. and glove box are all original and well-preserved. Please note that I have replaced most of the original plastic knobs with machined aluminum knobs. Everything works. including:-the horn-all interior lights (including foot well lights)-all gauges and gauge lights-clock-cassette stereo-wipers and wiper delay function-12 volt power outlet-parking brakeThe engine is the original 4. 2 liter straight 6-cylinder. It is well-tuned. and always starts right up. regardless of the weather or temperature. It does not smoke or burn oil. The transmission is the original Borg Warner 5-speed manual. and is a stout. reliable unit. 1984. 1985. and 1986 were the only CJ year models to receive the 5-speed. Consequently. fuel consumption is good. consistently producing 20-21 MPG on the highway. All wiring is neatly organized and properly mounted. Unlike most old Jeeps. there are no unsightly wires hanging down below the dash. Likewise. the engine bay is tidy. All hoses and wires are where they should be. Nothing is out of place. The hood has the original paint and Laredo graphics. Although showing its age. the hood buffs to a nice matte sheen that goes well with the bedliner on the rest of the body. Of course. not everything is original. During my ownership. I have replaced or added the following equipment:- Rugged Ridge 8500 lb. heavy-duty electric winch- Stainless steel tubular front bumper- 100 watt fog lights- SkyJacker front and rear suspension with 2. 5" lift- Stainless steel tubular nerf bars- Rear view mirror- Side mirrors- Front and rear seats- Roll Cage- Rear tires (all tires are BF Goodrich T/A Radials)- New soft top and mounting hardware (Bestop Supertop)- Hidden Hitch tow package (including electrical)- Fuel tank and skid plate- Fender flares- Rubber floor mats- Carburetor - Starter- Clutch- Belts- Brake pads- Windshield. windshield gasket. and windshield wipers- Seat belts- Center storage console- Rear floor pan and fender wellsThis is a solid machine. I drive it on the interstate at 65 MPH every week. a feat not wise to attempt in many CJ's. The steering is straight and true. I had the wheels aligned in 2012 when I purchased it. and have not had to adjust the steering since. Likewise. the brakes are strong with good pedal feel. I have hauled many trailer loads of firewood in this Jeep. and have always been confident in it's performance. THE BADLike most 30-year old Jeeps with original drivetrains. this one marks its territory. It leaks oil from multiple worn-out gaskets on the engine. transmission. and rear differential. Driven daily. it will leak about a quart of engine oil per week. It also requires transmission fluid and rear drive gear oil fill-ups every 6 months. This is a real shame. because it runs so well. The engine and transmission DO NOT need to be re-built. The engine does not smoke or burn oil. and the transmission shifts smoothly. They simply need to be steam cleaned. removed. re-gasketed. and re-installed. The windshield washer system has been disconnected. and does not function. The headlight high beams are burned out. but the low beams function properly. There are three very minor dings in the body (one on top of the hood. one at the lower passenger side of the front bumper. and one on the driver side along the lower body trim. There are two minor nicks in the driver's seat upholstery. Both are on the side of the seat where the seat belt rubs against the fabric. Otherwise. there is no "bad". I have tried to accurately portray the vehicle's condition with 24 high-resolution photos. I have not modified or touched-up any of the photos in any way. What you see is what you get. This Jeep is truly eye-catching. and I am routinely approached by off-road enthusiasts wherever I drive it. If you want to spend $50k on a Jeep that is literally everywhere. go get a 4-door JK. However. if you would prefer to invest less than 1/3 of that money in a classic Jeep that is NOTICED EVERYWHERE. and will surely increase in value as time goes on. buy this CJ-7. It's a wonderful time machine. and I will dearly miss it.
