Description
Thanks for looking at this 1988 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Edition. It is equipped with a newer 4. 0 motor from a 93 Wrangler as well as an upgraded AX15 5 Speed Transmission. I bought this about 4 years ago from an elderly gentleman who owned it since new. He loved it but couldnt drive it anymore do to back problems. He did some nice improvements over the years including a Rancho 2 inch body lift and a 2 inch suspension lift (4 inch total). He also installed larger shocks and extended brake lines. The exhaust was updated to a Borla stainless steel muffler and tailpipe that has a nice sound and will last forever! A Bestop was installed a few years back that has tinted windows that can be removed to make it a true open air jeep in about 5 minutes The doors have tinted windows as well that slide and can removed. The doors dont have locks but there is a lockable center console that is pretty heavy duty! The Saharra option gives you some nice storage areas in the dash and doors. The seats recline and have two speakers per headrest that are great for open air cruising! I updated the radio to accept mp3 ipod or cell phone imputs. When i got the jeep the body was solid the only rust I found was in the driver side floorboard (see picture). The previous owner also installed body armor on the rear quarters and under doors that prevent dents when four wheeling. The paint was an olive green which my girl friend hated! She helped me sand the body down smooth and then a friend of mine who owns a body shop sprayed the red paint on it. What an improvement! Once we got the body looking nice I set my sights on the mecanical end of things. The original 4. 2 motor ran well but i decided to change it out for better performance. so in went a 4. 0 H. O out of a 93 YJ with 125 k miles. Being a good time to upgrade the transmission I sourced a rebuilt AX 15/NP 231 combo out of a 89 YJ. ll related parts were replaced at the same time (clutch. pressure plate. throw out bearing & pilot bearing). This is so much better than the original 4. 2 & BA15! Since the original motor had a Webber Carb with electric choke on it I decided to keep it. Cold morning starts are no problem . just tap the gas to set the choke and it fires right up! YJ electonics had something to be desired so the original distibutor was replaced with a Davis High power unit sending lots of spark to the plugs. The brakes are power assist and have new pads and rotors front and shoes and drums rear. The alternator was also replaced with a new advance auto unit with warranty. The original differentials with 307 gears were retained having good gearing for Highway and off road. The wheels are off a 01 tj that I are mounted with 31 inch all terrain tires with only a couple thousand miles on them. There is a full size spare mounted on the tailgate also fairly new. I installed rock L. E. D lights under the body and hood for night time convenience that work on a remote. looks cool when driving down the road or just sitting in a parking lot! There's no back seat but there are rubber mats to cushion things and also to help with road noise. The Tail lights are also L. E. D as well as the reverse lights.
