Description

1978 Jeep Cherakee Chief "S"
An all original Cherakee Chief "S" with quadratrac four wheel drive. The engine is the 360 with a 4 barrel. Automatic trans. Mileage is original 38,765 miles and garaged its entire life, and it shows. Three owners total. The body is extremely good and the interior is like new, including the carpets and headliner. The engine runs smoothly, with no issues. All the gauges work. It has power steering, power brakes, AC (converted to freon 134a), front disc brakes, rear drum. AM/FM stereo. Cruise control. The suspension is new front and rear along with new shocks front and rear. The carb has been professionally rebuilt. It has been lifted 3 inches. Tires are BF Goodrich 32x11.5x15 All-Terrain and virtually new, as well as the spare. The original jack is still in its wrapper.
These wide trac Cherakee Chiefs are getting very difficult to find, especially in this condition. This one you just get in and drive.
I've attempted to describe the Jeep honestly. If you have questions please ask. You are more than welcome to see the Jeep in person if that works for you. I live near Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and San Juan Capistrano, so you could make a little vacation out of it.

Several people have asked about the underside of Cherakee Chief. I will attempt to take some pictures on Monday and put them up. As with most older jeeps, there's some surface rust underneath. It's just that, surface rust. It could be cleaned up if someone was so inclined.
Also, a little history of the Jeep. It was purchased new in Kentucky in 1978. The gentleman from whom I purchased the jeep, the 2nd owner, is in the Boston area. He's used the jeep sparingly for trips into town, etc. Always garaged. The paint is the only repaint the Jeep has had. It was kept the original color of sunshine yellow. The body is extremely good, with few minor imperfections. Hope this info helps.
