Description

I purchased the jeep in 2003 or 2004. It was on a farm and was used to pull tobacco sleds. The jeep was rough but the best part was barley any rust! Rare for an older jeep. It is a 1973 CJ5.
Since purchasing I've restored it a little during college and continued after. It has a 4-speed with 2wd, -hi and 4-lo. When I purchased it the speedometer didn't work and i've replaced the gauge cluster. Since installing a new one I've put 11,XXX miles on it.**Just to be clear the jeep has an UNKNOW amount of miles.
It has a 258 Inline-6 cylinder. Here is al its of things I've replaced, ebuilt, tc.
Soft top (BESTTOP)- this top new is $1,000ish
new seats-shows a little wear
added power steering and new steering wheel
new lights and covers,
fender flares,
spray in bedliner
Custom bumper front/back
I spray black rustolium under the jeep every few years. I did this a few weeks ago.
New starter
New gas tank
New carburetor,
REBUILT TRANSMISSION - this one was very expensive
New shocks,
bug-shield installed infront of grill
New, park plugs
Reese hitch
New Windshield
I found original alloy jeep wheels and purchased those with new tires. Tires have less than 12,000 miles on them.
I just replaced the rubber boot on the shifter.
There are various other things I've replaced/fixed over the years. This is just a list of some of them I can remember off the top of my head.
The jeep is in great shape. I've had new points put in the distributer cap but they kept giving me trouble so last week i installed the electronic conversion kit. Ive kept the jeep in a garage for the past several years. The only time its out in the rain is if its at the mechanic or the weather changes when i'm driving it. I have never driven it in the snow. Again to reiterate the point, ts very nice underneath. I looked at a 2005 truck last week that was rougher underneath then my jeep. That said there are still a few things you can do or I was going to do in the future. I recently had wiring work done on the jeep but the guy didn't do all he was supposed to. The Fuel gauge doesn't work but I top off the tank every 100 miles, he Hazard lights doesn't work either. The good thing about this jeep is its over 35 years old which means it doesn't need to be inspected in North Carolina....ever. I pay roughly $3.14 in property taxes on it every year. The brakes are fine but they are drum breaks and eventually I was going to upgrade to disc brakes but that up to you. I wanted the jeep to have a console which they didnt make for that year so I purchased a 50 cal. ammo can and painted it black to match the interior. I also bought bolts and a metal cup holder to go on top and a lock for it. Its all there but not installed.I just purchased a bikini top that has yet to be used. Its brand new.I've drove this jeep over the years and if something broke I had it fixed.
I don't have a real number as to what I have in the jeep. I would say I have well $13,000 + in it and thats probably a low low number. There are lots of older jeeps for sale. Some may look rougher and cost more, ome may look nicer and cost less but I doubt maybe a handful have what this jeep has in it.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
