With a heavy heart I am putting my 10+ year old project up for auction. Recently divorced and now this must go because of it.I will do my best to describe everything to the greatest detail that I can. There is well over $10k invested in this Jeep and I know I can't get it all back. I wish this project can go to someone to finish it and be able to enjoy it as I have and had planned on doing.
Over 10 years ago (12 I think?) I found a completely rust-free grand wagoneer that had been stored every winter and was up for sale. The undercarriage still had original paint on it with zero rust. Having owned GW's for years, knew that this was basically the holy grail and snatched it up for a mere $2200. Of course, few weeks after getting it I had trouble with one of the lifters in the engine and I put it aside as a project vehicle. Over the next 5 years, accumulated parts in order to rebuild the jeep that I wanted. I found another GW (1987 I think) that was a complete rust-bucket but it had decent rims and a newly rebuilt transmission with less than 10k miles on it. I found another parts jeep with a weak transmission but an engine that had 17k miles on a rebuild. Other parts, nterior (trim, oor panels, eats, tc) from another GW, lder style tail lights, arker plate plaque and hood ornament from different year jeeps. Things like that, nyways, ou get where I was going. I was accumulating all the things that I would need for a complete rebuild using this perfect bodied jeep and the parts from all the others to make a maintenance-free dream jeep.
Fast forward to two years ago. After having the Jeep frankensteined together from all the donors, had a brand-new-to-me Jeep on my hands save for a paint job and some loose ends. Since the woodgrain was damaged anyways, decided to paint it a pearl white color. It would appear white until the sun hit it just right or you were up close to it and then the pearl coloring would really sparkle through. I also had the rocker panels coated with a bed-liner-like texture to handle road debris and minimize damage when driving. This was never meant to be off-roaded, his was my luxurious in-town driver. In these two years my personal life got in the way, am now divorced, eeding money and having no need for a vehicle that only gets used sporadically for 5 months a year. Sadly, t is time for it to go, ven before it is complete. I will attempt to list all known goo, ad and still to do things on it. All extra parts are included as well as the custom cover that I bought to fit it for the winter.Feel free to ask questions, drove it 500 miles from CT a few years ago when I moved to OH and it now has a clear OH title. I would not hesitate to fly-in to the Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) and drive it home to anywhere in the US.
The Good/NewTransmission less than 20k on it (After all this time and two moves I don't have paperwork anymore) Runs smooth, trong and tightEngine was rebuilt 10 years ago? and has about 25k on it at this point. (Again, after all this time and two moves I don't have paperwork anymore)Brand new carpeting throughout- was installed 2 years ago, eeds to be cleaned upNew paint job 2 years agoNew tires 2 years ago from Sears, till have nubs on most of them4x4 worked fine when last used 5 years agoBrand new custom headliner 2 years agoNew radio and two speakers 2 years ago with CD and audio-in jackrare custom front floor matsrareish license plate chrome plaquerear roof "fin"never been on road during winterAll lights work fineNew brakes lines, tc all around 3 years agocurrently registeredlocks all work, ower seats, tc work greattailgate window switch works goodNew rubber in door windows (exterior and interior)(some still needing to be installed)Custom car cover included for Winter storageInterior Clock works greatall gauges workall seatbelts workNew battery 1 year ago?Starts right up every spring after sitting for 5-6 months
The NeedsEngine taps when initially started for about 10 seconds as oil pressure gauge starts to register- but then is fineDon't believe cruise control works-haven't really tried itA/C doesn't blow coldThis year after starting it in the Spring (from sitting all winter) Carb is running very rich and needs to be cleaned/adjustedpaint needs to be cleaned up, edone? There were a few screw? holes by front and rear lights that they forgot to fill when they painted and were going to repaint. I never got around to it. Overall there are some markings, crapes on the body that I tried to take pictures of-I believe they all can be cleaned up and they would disappear.Tailgate strap bolt (the part that the strap attached to on the body of the jeep) unscrewed and the tailgate closes, indow goes up but it isn't set correctly. This needs to be re-attached (This was my next thing to do)Because of this, here a re few chips around tailgate body edge in the paint that need to be addressed- I tried taking pictures of them. All locks need to be re-installedNoticed some lights on exterior need to be tightened to bodyBottom retaining screws on grill need to be installed- I never got around to it.Door panels are off on one side because the driver side front mirror switch needs to be replaced (the one thing I don't have a replacement for)And drivers side passenger door motor is jammed or disconnected-I never got around to trouble-shooting this.Overhead lights need covers added and installed (I don't have these)One of the stainless hub covers on the wheel needs to be reattachedSunvisors need to be installed- I have leftover fabric from headliner that was made to redo them that is includedNo fog lampsNot all seatbelts match in colorSome door handles need to be installed, thers need adjustment so easier to openRear cargo area interior metal window trim needs to be installedI noticed one of the cargo roof rack bars that lays on roof was loose and needs to be tightenedthe air vent near door on passenger side in the front is chipped and broken and needs to be glued back together or replacedone of the metal bars on tailgate came off and needs to be straightened and reattachedding in top of grill can be seen with hood openhood was removed for painting and needs to be reinstalled so lines match up betterleather seats aren't perfect and have some crackling to them but nothing too badsmall puncture whole in center of cushion on rear bench seat as seen in photo
I've tried to accurately describe this the best I can. I really love this jeep, veryone's head turns when I am driving it and it stirs up many a conversation.
