Description

For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a very special 1988 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole. Apparently there were no U.S. spec Countach with a white over red color combination available. This Countach was special ordered from the factory and then imported into the States and may very well be the only left hand drive Countach in the States painted White with Red leather. This amazing piece of art and machinery has been with its second owner for the last twenty years. The actual mileage is 14,125, while the odometer shows 22,848 kilometers (Euro spec). It's obvious how well it has been loved and cared for over the years. The car has never been restored and is still wearing the original paint and Pirelli P7R tires. Those rear tires measure 335/35R15 and were specially made for the Countach. This Countach is the 5000 Quattrovalvole and produces 420 horsepower and will rev to 7,500 rpm! Many sources say that the 5000 Quattro was the best version of the Countach. The Lamborghini Countach was first produced in 1974 and was a true work of art. No one had ever seen a car with such body lines. The closest thing to it was a Pantera with a Ford engine. The Countach is powered by an amazing V12 engine that sounds like a symphony in perfect harmony that finishes off with a throaty growl. It went through many transformations over the years starting from 4 liters and a half a dozen down draft Webers, all the way to 5 liters, 4 valves per cylinder and fuel injection. Lamborghini originally made tractors and was very successful. Mr. Lamborghini went to Ferrari and requested some changes be made to the clutch that was used on current Ferraris. Enzo quickly declined and the Lamborghini auto company was born just 3 months later. They have been at each other's throats ever since. During the Countach era, Ferrari did their best to compete. First with the 365 Berlinetta powered by a flat 12 boxer engine, then the Testarossa and finally the 288 GTO with twin turbo chargers. The Lamborghini was able to stay ahead and remain the better performer. Of all the Lamborghinis produced since 1963, the Countach remains the most recognizable and is without question a collector piece. If you're ready to sit in the red leather bucket seats (very comfortable), turn the key to ignite all 12 cylinders, slip the shifter into 1st gear and experience something that will stay with you for the rest of your life, call us to discuss your options on purchasing this amazing piece of machinery.
