Description

I have been asked by a friend to help him sell his 1963 Lancia Flaminia 3C Touring spider. As an owner of a Flaminia spider myself I have great respect for these cars. Lancia as an independent company went out of business in the late 1960's; they were bought by Fiat. The primary reason why Lancia went out of business is they over engineered their cars. They could have easily cut corners but that simply was not the Lancia way of building cars. For example this car has the transmission in the back to distribute the weight plus inboard disc brakes. Lancia was the first car manuafacturer with a V6 engine introduced originally on the Aurelia. The Flaminia engine is a further advancment of that V6 engine. Carrozzeria Touring in Milan hand made the Flaminia spiders bodies side by side with the Maserati 3500GT. Both cars employed the Superleggera (super light) method of construction in which an aluminum skin was wrapped around a steel frame. Superleggera was a time consuming and expensive method to hand build a car and the list of cars to employ this method of construction are now all highly sought after ... such as the Maserati 3500GT Lamborghini 350/400GT Aston Martin DB4/DB5 and Ferrari 212 and 340. There were very few spiders (convertibles) built by Carrozzeria Touring using the Superleggera construction method. In fact I believe the Flaminia spider was the only one made in any significant numbers and even then only 847 were made. Of those 847 421 were 2.5 liter single carb 246 2.5 liter triple carb and 180 2.8 liter triple carb. This car is a 2.5 liter with the very desirable triple carb (3C) setup. This car was originally delivered in Germany and later restored in Italy. The engine was completely rebuilt last year by Sam Nelson who is a master engine builder with experience in Lancia engines. The engine was dyno tested and the results and photos of the rebuilt are available. The car is in overall very nice driver condition with just a few areas around the hood where the paint has craked. As you can see in the photos the undercarriage is clean and the floors appear to be original. Interior is red leather in very nice condition. Convertible cloth top is in very good condition.
