This is a very original turnkey 1983 Land Rover Series 3 109 County Station Wagon. This model still boasts the original factory headliner, soundproofing and upgraded cloth seats. It is the 12 seat County model with the addition of a Fairey Overdrive.
This vehicle was the final model year for the Series 3 and it's replacement the, 110 was launched the same year. On last check, there were 8 1983 County Station Wagons left. I would be surprised if there is a better un-restored original example of this final year Rover.
With the exception of the Steve Parker sourced 200TDI conversion, this truck has been unmolested, with only 83,000 miles on the body and chassis. The rebuilt 200TDI was installed in 2014, with the vehicle being imported to the USA in 2015. Additionally, I've added the following gauges: oil pressure, water temperature, voltmeter and clock.
The truck has new Duratracs fitted (including the bonnet mounted spare) and is ready to drive anywhere. It typically averages about 28mpg (US). The Fairey Overdrive mounted to the Series 3 gearbox allows for true freeway cruising speeds (65mph is comfortable). The Series gearbox is in great shape with no crunching in between shifts. Overdrive, low range and 4WD all engage as they should.
The frame is very clean for a truck that lived in the UK most of it's life and the body and bulkhead, while not perfect display a wonderful patina.
As with any classic vehicle, there are items that an owner needs to make decisions on. I have left the original doors to retain authenticity. However the drivers door has had a previous repair that a new owner may decide warrants a new door.
All electrics work correctly and the heater is particularly strong for a Series vehicle. Currently, it sits in my heated garage in Seattle, WA. Fly in and drive it home!
