Description

I am selling my 1966 Land Rover series IIa with a low reserve in mainly because I don't need it anymore. so it's time to downsize and move on. My loss is your gain. This is a really nice Land Rover which I have enjoyed and used. It is definitely not a show car but there aren't many series Land Rovers in as good condition as this one for sure. This is a Land Rover enthusiast's dream. a unique. hand-made. British machine that has an epic history. It's not for everyone. it's not perfect. but for it's age. it is a beauty! This locally-purchased Rover has been a fully functional. recreational vehicle for me. It has been routinely serviced by the same. expert Land Rover mechanic over the years. even by the previous owner. The dependable. rebuilt engine (not original and replaced by previous owner) still runs strong and efficiently. The radiator has been rebuilt as well in the past two years with new hoses+belt which are still in good condition. The clutch has recently been serviced and replaced with mostly new parts as well as a recent oil change (including fresh oil in air-filter reservoir). I do see a small oil spot now and then on the driveway when it's parked for awhile ( one to two weeks) and evidence of an oily residue around right. rear wheel hub over time. The brakes work well and "stop on a dime" straight and evenly but can be a bit noisy sometimes when lightly applied. The drums and pads have been inspected thoroughly and are in great shape with little normal wear so I never bothered to replace anything. This Rover runs as it should. It cruises @ 45-55 mph straight and smooth. The non-power steering takes some getting use to as well as a non-synchronized gearing (double clutching 1st to 2nd gear and so on). It shifts very smoothly through all gears although there is little resistance between first and reverse gear. It has never been an issue for me because I usually stop before engaging first gear anyway. The original steel chassis has normal surface rust and a few past-welded repairs on outriggers and a newer rear crossmember. Overall is very solid. The 4-wheel drive works great and it has the optional front wheel locking hubs to engage/disengage front wheels (great feature for it's time). This Rover has been outside for the last two years so the faded. blue paint is nicely weathered (nice patina for those who are into that). The body has some minor flaws but really in good shape (I bought it this way although it could use a nice paint job). Obviously there is no rust on the body because the shell is aluminum. The firewall (or bulkhead) is solid! The added fog light fixtures and some hardware are showing signs of rusting. it really just needs a good polish. sanding. touch-up paint and T. L. C. The interior is complete and in good shape (no tears. tc). The headliner is also good (just needs cleaned a little). All lights (interior+exterior). turn signals. brake lights. accessory lights and horn work. as well as the windshield wiper motors (right side is a little weak). There is no heater. as this has been a Florida vehicle and is not necessary. It also has the original motor-crank rod stowed behind the passenger seat to start the vehicle if the brand new battery dies (which I disconnect if it's parked for a few days). All glass is in good shape as well as all window and vent gaskets and window tracks on removable top (felts are still intact but old). This vehicle will require maintenance. like most everything else in life. It also requires some skill to operate safely. it drives and handles more like a tractor when compared to modern vehicles. This Rover is almost 50 years old and still runs strong on the road or where ever you want it to take you. It was not designed for speed but for durability and dependability. it is old but well preserved and fully operational and will last indefinitely if properly maintained and cared for. This Rover also has many extras including; mud flaps. side steps (driver's left side step is still in box). 4 new Firestone Destination A/T tires which don't give it a sharp turning radius but they help make the look and ride amazing. Unfortunately. the spare does not match the other 4 tires. but is sufficient as a temporary tire in an emergency. Also there is a custom safari rack. insulated safari top. light protectors. custom rain/sun visor. aluminum step plates. off-road/utility lighting. custom interior with an added r. p. m. gauge. AC adapter jacks and more. I have tried to describe this vehicle as thoroughly and descriptive as possible so that you can bid with confidence and have no surprises if you purchase it. I want you to be happy with it. You won't be disappointed with this Rover and I don't think you'll find a better one for the price. There is much junk out there and I assure you that this is not. I apologize that I didn't clean first and for the poor quality photos (old cell phone camera). If you have any questions. please ask me before bidding on this awesome antique vehicle. You can email me with any serious inquiries only please and I will get back to you A. S. A. P. Thanks and happy bidding! JR
