I've come across quite a few Defenders. Most examples I come here in Europe don't get my attention having been relegated to the rough life of farmwork or ridiculous modifications. This Defender was something that really caught my eye. It spent most of its life in the warm sunny climate of Italy in the hands of a very attentive owner. A few years ago it was brought to Hungary.

The diesel motor starts up easily cold or warm (see video above). The transmission is silky smooth clutch is strong 4WD system low/high work with perfection. The 5-speed manual transmission makes it suitable for highway use. Remarkably the paint is 98% original. The only re-piant I could spot is on the top half of the right fender. Rust and corrosion: very little. Undercarriage is clean solid. Floors are perfect. The rear door has typical rust on the bottom edge. This is an easy fix or just replace with an upgraded aluminum door. Definitely one of the nicest older D90s I have come across in many years.

Relatively low original kilometers: just 180979 kilometers (112450 miles).

While I am a fan of any Land Rover Defender the problem many owners face with the American model V8 Defender is: driving range. I like the GM designed V8 but it is nothing compared to this factory 2.5L Perkins 4 cylinder turbo-diesel. E9xcellent power and torque clean running and most important for offroading: a very long driving range. Perhaps doubled! As an added benefit the turbo-diesel is more reliable and easier to maintain.

This Defender is over 25 years old and EPA and DOT exempt for U.S. importation. All vehicles 25 years or older are totally exempt from the draconian safety requirements for newer vehicles and are green-lighted through U.S. customs. I have exported several European version vehicles to the U.S. with great success. The trick is vehicles must be 25 years or older!

Good original condition. Great undercarriage floors and body panels. Some dings and scratches. Original paint. Rust on lower part of back door. Broken right side mirror. A couple tears on seats. Perfect dash and instrument cluster. Excellent reliable driver. Easy restoration if desired.
