1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III
Great running and fully sorted car withonlyproper work done on it in the 3-1/2 years since I acquired it from northern California.
Igot the car because Ireally liked thehigh back seats, the sunroof and the overall design of the car. This first of the modern mark series is truly unique and trendsetting. There are a lot of these model out there but few that are in as good a working and cosmetic condition as this. IN a word: this car has presence.
Drive train / Suspension
Items replaced include: front suspension bushings, steering box, Ball joints, bearings and tie rod ends ( all Moog parts). All new shocks of course.
Re-cored the radiator to help it keep cool with the working A/C (I livein Florida where A/C is a must).
Complete new dual exhaust including the replacement of the right side exhaust manifold( I found out that these tended to crack and the replacement is the upgraded version with a more robust casting). New exhaust system also includes the rear resonators as per original.
Car runs and pulls like a freight train and its hard not to chirp the tires pulling away from a stop. Enginework performed about a year ago was due to a burned exhaust valve.A completevalve job was done on both heads. As I had the engine open,a neworiginal style carburetor, cam shaft (one exhaust lobe was slightly spun), cam shaft bearings, timing chain and gear, water pump, distributorand fuel pumpwere installed at the same time.Engine blockshowed very little wear to the main bearings and piston rings and were, therefore, left undisturbed. Engine does not smoke (cold or hot) and starts on the first crank. No oil burning at alland compression is evenacross alleight cylinders.
Transmission shifts very smoothly ( as a Lincoln should) with no slipping, untoward noises or leaks. Recent transmission oil filter, and selectorshaft seals and linkage bushings assure safe selection of gears and firm retention of park setting.
Brakes werecompletely rebuiltwhen I first got it. At that time, the work done included new master, front calipers, rear pistons, pads and shoes. and flexible brake lines.
Nothing about the car was reallywrong beyond the typical as I was to find out inmanyconversations with (and parts from) the expertsat Lincolnland in Clearwater Florida. They specialize in these Lincolns. These guys are a great source for both advice and parts.
Records of all work andfactory servicemanualsare included with thecar.
Body and Trim
Sides and trunkwere painted to match the original and remove 40+ years of door dings andthe dealer installed rub strip which I thought really spoiled the design. Trunk was also painted and a newOEM top was installed. Top material is from SMS and is a perfect match to the OEM material. I've included a detail picture so you can see it. Sunroof works and closes fine. Will stick closeddue to new seals when left closed for a few weeks (as the video shows) but a tap on the roof always releases the seal.Trunk is very clean and complete with all panels, spare and tools.
New tires and complete brakes were done about 6 months ago. I did replace the original wheels with later model cast aluminum wheels that match the original turbine style wheel covers. And, though not original, the newer wheels still look appropriate to the car ( I think better)and mimicthe original wheel covers. Car tracks better and there is no vibration at speed or wobble from the original steel wheels.
Too Many little things fixed or done ( like the hood sound deadener panels, A/C Hose, Vacuum Lines, clips, bits of trimetc.) to list... Been a labor of love.
New inner and outer window fuzzies and driver's side door pullare installed.
Car runs and drives like new and I have truly enjoyed it and the attention and praise it receives as well as the reminders as to its more famous movie counterpart.......
Please enjoy the pictures.

Since last listing
I've had numerous calls and questions regarding the car. Here is a summary of FAQ's in hopes that it may be of help to you in bidding:
Color of the car is code 39 "Ginger Moondust Metallic"...Top is a darker brown - overall very fetching combo..
People have been asking about the two plates (the California and Florida plates). The Great State ofFlorida only requires a rear plate. I kept the old California plate on the frontbecause it was interesting and came with the car and reminds me where it came from. I think its kind of cool. All pictures were taken at the same time except for the trunk which was taken last week.
Pictures were taken in the fall around October. Car is in the same condition.
Car has the original AM/FM Radio. Original radio works but sounds 70's vintage. Speakers were all replaced with modern equivalents in prep for new radio in the glove box (not yet installed).
There is a video ( not very good) on youtube under "Miami Lincoln Continenetal Mark III" heading. It was in answer to a bidders request so it deals with some questions not asked here. Suffice to say ... it is very amateur. Anything else you need to see let me know.
Car does not have Cruise Control but does have tilt wheel.
Only rust I've found appeared after the rear and sides were painted in the right rear fender basejustin front of the bumperwhich appeared after the paint was completed. It is visible in the pictures. Has not progressed since.
New top required rust repair (minor at the base of the top where it meets the fender). Rust was ground out and surface was prepped prior to painting, small spot was welded in on the driver side.
Yes, Everything works as good as it ever did. Including the windows which are slow.... New windowswitches installed on the Master driver panel...see video. New passenger side motor installed after video was done.
Light coversfunction as they should but actuators do leak down and open overnight.
I am including all the spares I have for the car with the sale as it is the only Mark3I currently own but is the not the only one I've had. These include a front grill, voltage regulator and other spares and varioustrim bits. These include a complete grille, voltage regulator, steering wheel trim, and a box full of other misc. parts.
Overhead warning lights all function as they should.
Window door seals (fuzzies) installed on both doors. New Upper door seals installed about a year ago. Front window rear edge seal on driver side window wasreplaced. Passenger side is in the parts box as it was not needed.
Car is for sale locally. So I may have to pull it if sold prior to close of bidding unless reserve is met.
Why am I selling? - because I need the room. and basically - I'm done bringing it back. From here on in it is just regular maintenanc, enjoyment and typical antique car stuff to do.
Reserve was set according to value of recent local sales at auction (Auctions America at the Fort Lauderdale sale). That one had no reserve and sold for $14,500 and did not have the high buckets or the sunroof. Reserve is quite a bit lower.
Car is sold as is where is.
Thank you for your interest.
