For sale in our Chicago showroom is a classy 1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV. By 1959 Lincoln was producing a similarly-styled car to what designers Elwood Engel and John Najjar debuted in 1958. Although the '59 model was somewhat "toned-down" compared to the previous year this car is over-the-top by today's standards. One look at those long sleek fenders, massive front grill and huge chrome bumpers make you fall in love with this classic styling.
Lincoln was producing some beautiful cars in the 1950's but this bold yet luxurious styling really stood out even among the ultra-luxury segment and the distinguished buyers were treated to a plethora of options that some cars today are void of. The list of these goodies include power Treadle-vac braking, power steering, power windows, power vent windows, power rear "Breezeway" window, a power adjustable front seat, Town and Country radio, air adjust control, remote mirror adjustment and rear courtesy lights.
This particular vehicle is a true survivor having only traveled less than 36,000 miles since new. A scant 1,703 of these were made in 2-doors back in '59 and had a list price of $6,598 when new roughly $54,000 in today's money. This well preserved original still dawns the original interior finished in blue leather with brocade inserts. Check out that rear seat that easily has room for 4 or 5 people and the trunk which has more space than some New York apartments. In addition to a lifetime of care this car has had recent work done to make it reliable including a rebuilt transmission, new spark plugs and wires, water pump, battery, fan belts, tires and a rebuilt carburetor.
