Lincoln Continental is a model name for a series of automobiles produced by the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company from 1939 to 1948 and again from 1958 to 1980 and from 1981 to 2002. Although a Continental was produced from 1956 to 1957, he Continental Mark II, t was produced by the newly formed Continental division of Ford Motor Company, separate division from the Lincoln division, o while technically not a “Lincoln” Continental, t is usually referred to as such. Despite often sharing underpinnings with less-expensive Fords, he Lincoln Continental had usually been a distinctively plat formed and styled, ighly equipped luxury car in the course of its long history.
The flagship Lincoln model during most of its run, he Continental name conveyed special cachet in the product line. The Lincoln Mark series grew out of it, ith varying degrees of brand differentiation over the years. During the 1980s, he Continental was downsized from a full-size to a mid-size Ford Taurus platform; this introduced the Continental to a wider range of competition from Europe and Japan. After the Continental was discontinued in 2002, t was largely replaced by the Lincoln LS and eventually the Lincoln MKZ. However, n March 2015, n all new version of the Continental was unveiled at the New York Auto Show, nd is expected to go on sale sometime in 2016 as a 2017 model.
A classic example of the quintessential “Kennedy Era”. These Lincolns became a movie rave as time has gone by. This car hails from the LeMay Family Foundation collection archive, nd is incredibly sound and original. Priced to sell to benefit charity, hese cars are exceptionally collectible and sought after.
