Red with tan leather interior, 2,174cc DOHC 16-Valve Turbocharged 4-Cylinder Engine, 5-Speed.
The Lotus Esprit became an instant star when James Bond and ‘Q’ chose it for the 007 films “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “For Your Eyes Only.” A Turbo Esprit for Roger Moore as James Bond was used in “For Your Eyes Only” with skis strapped to the back for a skiing trip to Italy’s posh Cortina ski resort. What more can be said, awesome!
The Esprit design was unmistakably from the pen of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Esprit featured all-independent suspension and Lotus’s own 16-valve, four-cylinder engine placed transversely mid-ship, mated to a five-speed transaxle. Disc brakes were fitted to all four wheels, the rears being mounted inboard. In 2.2 liter turbocharged form, the Esprit HCI produced 220bhp and was good for a top speed of 152mph, 0-60 mph attainable in just 5.5 seconds.
Hand built in limited numbers; the Esprit remains one of the most iconic and popular thoroughbred sports cars ever produced.
This is a fantastic example.
Engine completely rebuilt (New crankshaft from JAE, new pistons, rings and sleeves from LESCO,connecting rods rebalanced and matched to the crank and pistons also by LESCO -- shipped to CA for that --). Thetransmission fully reconditioned as well. Both the engine and transmission ingreat, like new, working order.
Odometer reads 13114, most likely it is 113,114. With all the work (and money) that hasgone into making this car fantastic, it might as well be 13,114.It has an Alaskan windshield (you can see the crack in the frontal picture -- JAE has windshields in stock). The seats have seam separation at the bend in the seats (fairly common).
I have re-affixed the steering wheel center (you'll see it is not on in picture #5 but on in all the rest).
With severe arthritis in my legs, it is very difficult (and I look pretty silly) getting in and out of it, though my wife thinks I should keep it. I believe this car will bring a huge smile to the winner. both for its value and for its coolness.
Available locally, so auction may end at any time.
Legal mumbo... No warranties or guarantee, expressed or implied (though, I personally would have no compunction with driving it to the states -- 2,249 miles to Seattle -- as it would be a great adventure). However,Irecommend shipping or the Alaska ferry system.
