Up for sale is an ultra rare, lowmileage, totally original, hand crafted byZagato-MaseratiBiturbo Spyderinjection.
The injection version of the Zagato was introduced in 1986 and stayed in production till 1989, when a re-bodied Spyder replaced it. Onlya scarce 122 copies of this original masterpiecewhere ever builtwith the much improved injection version of the 2.5L V6.
TheBiturbo Spyder isZagato's first design forMaseratisince the highly acclaimed A6G from the '50.The sensational design of this little car is verycharacteristicofthe maestro, famous for his powerful, masculine and evenelegantlyraw lines.Zagato's design fitsto theBiturbo'scharacterperfectly. The 188 bhp twin turbo V6 is mounted in an even sorter andlighterframe than the coupe's (only a2.4 metres - 7.9ft wheelbase),resulting in even grater maneuverability, body stiffness and brutal pull.
Before the turbos kick in, the Zagato is a typical Italianluxury car- comfortable andeffortlesslyfun to drive. Rev bothturbos to into life, and this little Maseratibecomes absolutelyballistic. Due to the turbo kick, theacceleration feels much moreimpressive even than thesensationalfor it's time 6 seconds figure. Thesubstantiationalamountofoverstear, expected from such a shortandpowerfulRWD car iscontrollable and precisely prediclable once mastered. It engages your total attention, making you forget theluxuriousleather interior and comfortable ride. In the right hands, aZagatoBiturbo can be a very fast car.
The car presented here is a rare original and low mileage time bubble. It still wears the originalZagato workshop blackpaint and tan interior, showing astonishinglylittle rust. As can be seen in the photos - there is some on the front clip and in the lower right side of thewindshieldframe. the rest of the car is solid and rust free. Most of the original paint still shines nicely. Originalluxuriousinterior is intactas can be expected from such a lowmileagecar. Top needs replacement.
The car was stored in a collection not driven for quite a few years and will probably need attention, however the engine has good compression, gearbox shifts great and the turbos kick in as they should without smoking. It starts, runs and drives very fast and smooth and sounds great.
It is being sold as is but you are welcome to come and test it in person before bidding.
As '60Maserati carswere affordable in the '90, and '70 in the '00, I'm sure such a rare '80MaseratiZagatois a solid investment in 2016.
