Description

Buying a car online is a big deal. which is why I have included as much information as I can think of. Please ask any and all questions before placing a bid. Feel free to contact me directly at Davidbello777@gmail. com for fastest reply. Watch a video of this car here 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SL For Sale: http://youtu. be/0usTGkbXkiI http://www. youtube(dot)com /v/0usTGkbXkiI?fs=1&hl=en_US I have receipts and video documentation of all work done on this car. from the timing chain to speedometer gears and transmission seals. This is one very clean car! I'm selling As-Is so please read the entire post and see detailed pictures below! This 1987 Mercedes 560SL Roadster has a lot of work done recently and is a blast to drive. Besides having a 5. 6 liter engine and automatic transmission it has 2 convertible tops: a hardtop and like-new brown soft vinyl top stored in the rear. The main top comes off at 5 attachment points. The car is a 9/10. the engine is reliable and serviced. and so is the transmission. I've had the car for a year. I bought it from a retired restaurant owner in NM who had several other Mercedes as daily drivers. I have done the required scheduled maintenance and now it is time to sell it as my expenses have increased with school and other projects. DESCRIPTION OF EXTERIOR: It was a CA. AZ and NM car its whole life. Paint is a 9/10. with minimum chips and scratches. See pics. The main chips are at the edges of the doors. and one spot behind the hard top. It was always kept under a car port. garage or car cover. All of the chrome is great. two small dents on bumper front. no cracks in lenses for lights. Some scuffs on chrome. but minimal. The hard top is excellent and a tool is included for unlatching. There was a second tool for the rear latches but luckily it can be substituted with pliers or a small wrench as it is missing. The bumpers are great. no damage to the body as far as I could tell. minimal rust on body. rockers or sills. See pictures. Only a small surface spot on the passenger door jamb bottom. See pictures. The only considerable rust is the very thin exhaust heat shield but as it is thin. this is better than expected for a car of this age. The exhaust was replaced with a 3" cat-back system and Flowmaster muffler. It sounds great! The sound is really infectious. The wheels were stripped down and re-clear coated last year. Still looking great. Tint is a little worse for wear. as it is aged and showing it. Some scratches and rippling. See pics. Power antenna works flawlessly. No cracks in windshield. DESCRIPTION OF DRIVETRAIN: Very clean. new fuel pumps last year along with exhaust pipe and muffler. Independent rear axle suspension Small transmission leak at input for shifter cables. I find that it only leaks when parked for a significant amount of time. over 48hrs. Apparently this is a common problem at the cables. As I have replaced the transmission pan gasket and filter this is a small marginal and common leak. so the more it's driven the less it leaks. The engine leaks a single drop of oil at the oil filter. Next oil change I am sure it will go away. as it is time for the change. and 2 new oil filters are included with the car. The rest of the engine and transmission is clean and oil-free. No leak at the steering gearbox. which is common in the R107 Mercedes models. A/C does not work. Unknown cause. Passenger front Michelin tire leaks air if parked over a considerable amount of time. Brake pedal sometimes groans when coming to a stop with the wheel turned. Never been a big issue. and pads/rotors look great. Engine valves tick at start up. This goes away almost entirely when warmed up. I suggest a valve adjustment during the next maintenance. DESCRIPTION OF INTERIOR: 9/10. very clean. never smoked in. Seats are near perfect with no rips. tears or scuffs. Door panels are great and chrome everywhere is great. Some light fading on rear top upholstery from years of sunlight. A few cracks in dashboard. All gauges work. Kenwood radio works great. two speakers in the rear under an upholstered cover. Sometimes the speakers buzz when the radio signal is poor. Otherwise they look like-new. LIST OF FEATURES; Power locks. nbsp; power steering. nbsp; alarm (armed with power door locks. see owner's manual) heater with automatic fan function. Kenwood radio with AUX and CD player. (KDC-138) Jensen rear speakers power antenna defroster. power mirrors ambient air temp gauge on dashboard Power windows Driver air bag (replaced in 1996) fuel economy gauge. oil pressure. coolant. gas gauges tachometer. clock warning lights for fluids. lights etc. All-weather floor mats cruise control LIST OF WORK PERFORMED: Thousands spent on maintenance in the past year. Timing chain replaced 20 miles ago. receipt for OEM parts and work available. Over $1. 00 for this. Power steering pump resealed. fluid plushed. Tune up with brand new BOSCH Distributor Cap and rotor and NGK plugs. Wires are in great shape. Distributor O-ring changed. Coolant flushed Valve cover gaskets replaced Transmission oil pan gasket and transmission filter (OEM Mercedes) replaced Transmission drain and fill Dex/Merc ATF Fuel pump and filter replaced 1. 00 miles ago Cat-back 3" exhaust and FLOWMASTER muffler. Odometer gears replaced using GARAGISTIC brand gears. All other parts bought at either MERCEDES BENZ of ALBUQUERQUE or AUTOHAUSAZ. COM Brand new DURALAST battery. A hefty and pricey one. but it's brand new. HOW IT DRIVES: Like you're on a cloud. It has a very direct response pedal feel and cruises nicely. expecially with the top down. You could be driving 100 miles per hour and not notice it because it is smooth. PROBLEMS/ISSUES: To repeat what I have described in detail above and some other things. there is the slightest oil leak at the filter. and the trans shifter input seal is leaking when when the car remains parked. The more you drive the less drips out. I recommend Lucas ATF seal fix. as it is a reputable brand and product if you wish. The air conditioning does not work. I have not messed with it as I hardly drove the car and it's winter. I believe the issue lies in the compressor wiring. There is a switch on the dashboard (knob. yellow light) for the compressor but it is not hooked up all the way. I believe the system is charged with R12 still. Once every 5 or 10 starts. the starter makes a grinding noise. I suspect that one tooth may be worn on the starter motor. It has never left me stranded and when it happens I just try again and it cranks powerfully and fires up. The window on the driver's side rolls up about 1/2 of an inch too far. When this happens. it gives the door a hard time of closing. or there is a slight gap in the seal. I remedy this the same way ann pillar-less doors are designed nowadays: when I get in. I roll down the window slightly and then close the door and roll it up. Then I leave it at the desired height and it's not an issue until someone rolls it up again. Again. a small spot of rust on passenger door jamb. See pictures. These are mostly minor things. but it's good that you should know the little quirks that come with an older car. The car comes with a lot of extra parts. like oil filters. etc. I will update the list on demand. Again. this is sold AS-IS. without warranty and accepted return. The car is listed in good mechanical condition. but not perfect. By bidding you accept the above statements which I have provided as honestly as I could. and you understand the issues as described. I do not know everything about this car. and I wish to see it go to a Mercedes enthusiast. I do know that it is a blast to drive and I love turning heads in this beauty. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. We can provide a shipping quote with our personal truck and 32ft gooseneck trailer. but it may not be the cheapest route. Thank you for reading. happy bidding and enjoy these pictures! I can email files directly if necessary. REAR BUMPER
