Description

This 1976 Mercedes 450SL is owned by a 66 year old grandmother. I am the second owner. I always liked the looks of this classic vehicle and I finally was able to own one. That got me addicted to collectingclassic cars. The car has always been garaged at my home. My collection has grown out of control and that is why I am parting with this beauty.

I am a home body and only drive to town to get groceries every 10 days so I haven't put much mileage on the car. So far this year I have only bought two tanks of gas.

The car was originally Mercedes yellow. In 2006 we did a complete restoration. The engine was replaced with a rebuilt engine and the transmission was overhauled. While the engine was out of the vehicle it was the perfect time to paint it red. Everything was removed from the engine compartment and the car was completely torn down before painting. I have included a photo of the car in the painting process. It was painted using PPG color and clear coat. The original wheels were powder coated Mercedes silver and Michelin tires installed. The original a/c was replaced with Vintage Air.The interior was completely redone with Fawn velour seats (more comfortable when riding with the top down), the door panels were upholstered with ultra leather in the original design. The center console was customized to include a compartment (which also serves as an armrest) and covered in the same ultra leather. The dash was painted to match the interior and wood veneer was installed, stained, and finished both on the dash and console. The radio was replaced with a CD player. New Fawn carpet was installed and the original door sills were replaced with one piece stainless sills. I love the look of the Fawn interior with the bright red paint. Gets lots of looks and has won awards at car shows.

This sporty roadster has both a hard top and a rag top. The control levers were replaced with new stainless levers. Both tops are in good condition. While it is fun to drive with the top down, sometimes the hard top is the way to go. When the weather gets hot (I live in Texas) the hard top seals and the a/c is more comfortable. You don't get the wind noise and air leaks with a hard top that you get with the rag top. The same is true in the winter when you want to seal out the cold air.

Also included with the vehicle is a manual top remover (hoist) still in the box. My husband bought it for my birthday one year but it never got installed in our garage. It makes hardtop removal a one person job (or so it was advertised). Never got to use it, always depended on my son for help.

This is a fun car to drive and while I hate to sell it I have run out of garage space.
