Showing 24,781 miles.
With the 1954-1963 Mercedes Benz 300SL selling regularly at auction for over $1 million dollars, the savvy Mercedes Benz investors are buying up the best examples of the 190SL (W121) available.
According to Hagerty #1 condition vehicles value at $237,000 with #2 condition vehicles coming in at $201,000.
The owner is looking to sell this car, and the reserve is set to sell !!!
The 190SL model shares much of the styling with the 300SL and also the same qualities that made the 300SL such a historically significant vehicle.
Both vehicle's shared the double wishbone suspension up front and swing axles in the rear.
The 190SL is powered by a spirited 1.9L straight 4 SOHC engine that produces roughly 104 bhp.
These cars came with many different options including soft and hard tops, and various accessories and seats.
This particular example we are offering for sale today is a documented nut and bolt restoration by one of the best known 300SL, 190SL restorers in the US (Bob Platz of Precision Auto Works in Camde, New Jersey).
The vehicle was owned within his family for decades before it was purchased by it's current owner in 2013.
The complete and thorough documentation of this restoration is included with receipts from the current owner.
The absolute most impressive feature of this top notch restoration is the attention to detail of the bodywork.
I have worked on quite a few W121 roadsters over the past 25 years and this particular car is restored to a very high level with regards to a laser straight body.
The vehicle's panels gap out beautifully and the contours are fitted perfectly with the vehicle's show quality bright work.
It is truly a testament to the high quality of work Bob Platz and his team produces at Precision.
The chrome grille, head lamp bezels, bumpers, bumperettes, windshield frame, door handles, trim, gas cap and hubcaps all have a show quality chrome plated finish.
This particular model is also equipped with Hella Euro Style fog lamps which are seldom seen on the 190SL.
The vehicle's tan leather interior is simply stunning. as it well compliments the deep medium red paint.
Carpeting is in near perfect condition and show like new.
Interior bright work is also on par with it's exterior chrome and it is show quality.
The trunk comes complete with its original spare wheel and period correct Firestone tire.
The opening of the trunk reveals an exquisite 3 piece collection of hand crafted matching luggage from Taris Charysn and Company of West Kill, NY.
Taris Charysn is well known for their high quality luggage sets and his work is presently on display at the Mercedes Benz Classic Center in Irvine, California.
The vehicle's matching red German canvass soft-top shows like new with an excellent fit.
The quality of a well restored vehicle can best be judged by the attention to detail underneath and under the hood.
The undercarriage of this vehicle is properly restored with attention to factory correct colors and marking.
The engine bay is equally impressive with its spotless appearance, proper refinishing of components and correct badges and decals.
The vehicle was fitted with Weber Carburetors which is a more reliable and commonly accepted upgrade from the original Solex Carburetors.
Driving is believing as the vehicle runs and drives beautifully with only a few hundred miles since its mechanicals were sorted through completely during restoration.
Please take the time to look at all of the detailed photographs.
The vehicle is located in Central NJ 07753 and pre-purchase inspections are welcome and encouraged at my facility.
