I am offering my 1985 Mercedes-Benz w460 LWB up for auction. VIN# 46023317010679The vehicle is a 1985 W460 the previous owner had it titled as a 1981. I did not bother getting it corrected so I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of verifying the "diesel" aspect on the registration.According to my local DMV I am the fourth owner of the vehicle. The Gelandewagen started its journey as a 280ge however the second owner upgraded the motor to its current om603 Inline 6 turbo-diesel setup. The motor is mated to a 5 speed manual out of a late model Mercedes-Benz sedan. Motor runs strong without burning oil and the transmission shifts up and down gears flawlessly without grinding or popping out of gear. 4wd and lockers also work without a hitch. The 2nd owner pulled the om603 from a healthy donor. At the time of the install the radiator was also gone through. Customs motor mounts oil pan throttle linkage and drive-line bits were fabricated to complete the project. I also have a few pages of receipts from the previous owner for all mechanical work performed by a reputable Mercedes specialty shop based in Portland Oregon. A sample short list of work performed is as follows; Inspect and repair rear diff master cylinder Replace two rear hoses at rear diff Test and repair idle speed control Inspect and repair fuel shut off Inspect and replace steel injector lines and minor electrical troubleshooting. I purchased the G July 2nd of last year. Less than 3000 miles have been logged since then as the vehicle has been apart for restoration. I have spent countless hours repairing various electrical issues as well as restoring both interior and exterior panels on the vehicle. Many of the electrical issues were due to poor ground corroded terminals and incorrect connections i.e; turn signals connected to door lamp switch. All turn signals brake reverse headlights work. Dash panel and gauges also function as they should with exception of the tachometer as it is not currently connected. As you can see from the photos listed above all rotten metal was cut out and replaced the worst areas being the lower corners of the windshield rockers both driver and passenger floorboards and rear door. The windshield is brand new all window gaskets have a thin bead of urethane caulking to ensure no water gets behind the gaskets. All original caulking on windshield divide upper and underside roof beam door jambs and body divides have been removed and replaced with 3m seam sealer. All new underside and floorboard sheet metal have been zinc coated and sealed with por15. All inside jambs where sealer could not be painted on were coated with a wax sealer via magic wand. The entire floorboard as well as side and door panels were then covered with 80mil sound and heat deadener. All exterior accessories were fitted before final paint so that adjustments to door jambs and body panels could be made. All panels were hammered and dollied to fit minor plastic applied where needed prime final prime paint and cut and buff. Color is a custom green not quite agave but akin to keswick green. This is a great driving vehicle with little work needed to be completed. She drives straight and cruises easily at 70 on the freeway. Although not race car fast she will pull hills due to the turbo inline 6 and 5 speed transmission. I recently replaced a transmission component just a week ago and now she runs better than ever. During my ownership I have accrued many parts and I also have a few on order. I purchased the G to use as my daily driver with that I always replace the normal wear and tear items that occur on any used vehicle. Currently there is a tiny bit of water that enters the cab through the wiper shafts as they need a rebuild I am currently sourcing rebuild kit. The interior fan does not work but I didnt have an issue with that as I was planning to add AC and that component is not needed. Windshield wipers visors front and side turn signals are new. The G military snorkel is installed but the hoses are not. I have all t-clamps and silicone hoses needed to make the setup work. Also wanted to note that the dash do have cracks as can be expected with the age and the drivers seat does have slight tears and imperfections. Also installed custom rock sliders refurbished seat bases. The title is clean. A pre-purchase inspection was performed prior to me purchasing the vehicle and is included along with the receipts from previous work. Compression numbers were all within range. Also included with the sale are om603 specific oil filters in-line and normal fuel filters diesel purge intake manifold gasket snorkel intake bits extra gallon of paint working 300GD turn signal stalk and $200 worth of genuine mercedes shop service manuals for the 602/603 engine and 1971-1991 chassis manual etc.I have much more into this restoration that im sure I left out. I have owned many other classic offroad rigs such as a SBC 74 FJ40 FJ55 69 Bronco and this by far is my favorite. Unfortunately I have to let this go because of recent work propositions and the fact that I need the money to finish up other projects. I may or may not be listing a 1969 C10 very shortly. I reserve the right to end the auction early for local sales. If you have any questions feel free to leave me a message and I will call you back when work permits. I accept cash and personal check in person and prefer wire transfer for non local sales. I can help load transport and can recommend reputable transport companies. Test drives are welcome im old school and I prefer to meet in person and show you what the G is capable of.And last state regulations does not mandate that gas or diesel fuel has to be printed on title so it is not listed. However I called recently and was told that it is registered through the DMV as a diesel. I can include my current registration as well as the previous owners registration that both list diesel as the fuel type. I have friends that have had no problem registering their current diesel vehicles in CA. (I live in CA for 31 years and dealt with the "struggle" most of my life)Thanks in advance

***UPDATE 17JUN15 06:20PM***Thanks to everyone for the kind messages and a big thanks to the guys (and gals) at BAT!! I've gotten a few of the same repeat questions so I thought I would share here. The vehicle is located in Gulfport MS. I purchased the vehicle from an owner in Oregon. It was not subject to flood damage from Katrina. The extensive rot was due to poor upkeep from the previous owner. When I took ownership of the G there was electrical tape covering the rust holes in the windshield. At first heavy rain the front portion of the cab would literally flood 2-3 inches. If it wasn't for the cracks in the makeshift fiberglass/bondo floor it would never dry out.Concerning rust management and treatment this was not a frame off so I can not tell you that I removed 100%. I cut out and welded in the crucial structural areas and any other area that was accessible without unbolting body mounts. New panels were treated with zinc etch coat por15 chassis coat and last 3m rubberized undercoating. Joining weld seams were filled with a silicone based sealer then undercoated. There are a few spots on the back panel above the gas tank that I could not cut out or weld for obvious reasons so I filled them as best as I could and sprayed a wax coating in the hard to reach areas. The motor is an OM603 out of a late model 300SDL. It is the 3.0L version.3.5 vs 3.0? 603 vs 606? Which is better? Which one is the rod bender? Which one has less issues? Its all personal preference. Do the preventative maintenance and pay attention to the gauges and any motor will run for a very long time. This leads to the questions regarding parts on order. This is my daily driver I intended to take it cross country on an upcoming trip but because I didn't build it I dont trust it wholeheartedly. The 603 motors are well known to have issues with overheating and catastrophic damage if not immediately shut down. Even though I have not had any issues it would be foolish not to spend a few bucks and take care of the most common reasons of failure. Im currently waiting on a fan clutch and water pump if it comes in on before its sold I will replace the two and flush the entire system. Also the G is starting to develop a slight wobble at speeds above 65mph this is attributed to worn tie rod boots. I have these on order and will take the same action. Parts also en route: Water PumpFan ClutchTie rod boots (2)Tie rod crown nuts (2)Bushing stabilizer bar (2)Complete wiper shaft re-seal kit (2)Heater control cableI have a link to my dropbox account where I have uploaded 19 additional photos as well as a startup-walkaround-enginebayaction-shutdown video. I also have a photo of the last PPI performed by MBI. Unfortunately eBay will not let me list it so if you are interested feel free to message me your email.
And last while I have entertained a few of the "buy it now" type questions please bid on the item if you would like to purchase. I have told some what I have into the build and what I am looking to get. Please dont bother offering $500 more than the current bid for me to pull the sale.Thank you all!!
