Timeless....Mercedes BenzI purchased this 1984 300TD Estate Wagon from an old friend and neighbor. He was the original owner an aeronautical engineer by trade and a classic car enthusiast. Daily I would wave at this beautiful black Mercedes as it "clugged" by (diesel sound). For years I begged to buy his beautiful wagon and it was a dream come true when he was finally ready to part with it. In the short year we've owned it my wife and I have taken it road trips throughout Arizona and California. We also enjoy taking it to the Saturday night car shows in Scottsdale Az. Reluctantly...we must sell our wagon to raise additional capital for our start-up business. Personally there are only a few factory colors I like really on the Estate Wagons and my favorite is black. In my opinion no other color looks as "rich orelegant".All the glass all the chrome trim and Palamino interior really "POP" from under that glossy black exterior paint.There is a charm a timeless elegance about any clean old Mercedes Benz and this car has that charm. European car lovers and for some reason..."middle aged women" really love this car??? I can't tell you how many "soccer moms" have waved gave thumbs up or complimented me on this little wagon. This classic Mercedes Benz can Valet park next to any car and still shine.Finally! ... details about this Mercedes.ExteriorThis 1984 Mercedes Benz remains in very original condition it has been well maintained and obviously loved. Except for the rear lift gate (which was repainted because of a large scratch) the paint appears to be totally original. There is a slight ding on the passenger rear door (see pic) light scratches on the hood rock chips below the headlight and a couple small misc"touch ups".I would rather drive this old Mercedes with it's "character" flaws than have the best repaint. "They're only original once"This car is 100% rust free it looks like the car has never seen rain. Not a water spot in the interior! This Mercedes obviously has never been in a wreck(again original paint) the doors hatch and hood all close squarely flush and with ease.Thanks to Arizona's super dry climate all the chrome still looks new.InteriorExcept for the outsides of the headrest which have been repaired the interior is totally original and still looks great! The seat vinyl remains soft with lots of life left. The headliner is in great condition and unstained. The car has two MB keys and the original owners manual.The carpet in the rear cargo area has several light stains the arm rest has a small area of cracking and the dash has a few cracks. Please lookclosely at the pictures to see these flaws.Engine BayEverything in the engine bay appears factory original and clean.MechanicallyWarm up the glow plugs and this little wagon starts immediately. No ill engine noises no rattles knocking tapping or squeaks just that beautiful Mercedes Benz diesel "clugging sound". No oil leaks or blue smoke. The transmission shifts nicely the brakes work well and steering is tight. There are only 175297 easy miles on this Benz and from the way it runs I'm sure it will run many many more miles.AccessoriesAll the lights and turn signals work. The stereo and fader horn power mirrors fog lights rear wiper and defroster sunroof A/C all work. The tachometer is not working and one rear window does not go up and down. The power door locks move slowly (leak). The MB wheels have been chromed but there is some chrome flaking around the center hubs of two of the wheels (see pics).The car has new KYB gas shocks and the tires are basically brand new.Driving ImpressionThis car is pure Mercedes Benz... it drives as solid as a tank but steers brakes and handles with ease and grace. We've enjoyed the car mostly with windows down sunroof open while touring our beautiful Arizona Highways. I feel the car is at it's best on the open road. The suspension is plush yet firm through the curvy mountain roads and the powerful diesel enginedoesn't know when it's climbing a hill.My Overall ImpressionMy overall impression of this car are quite high. I have owned hundreds of classic automobiles in my lifetime but none as original and pristine as this Mercedes wagon."I feel that with a little work this will be one of the finest surviving/originalMercedes Benz Estate Wagons around". This Mercedes wagon has been well maintained garage kept and respected all its life and it shows. I sincerely hope this car finds its way to another loving family or Mercedes Benz showroom.Although this 300TD wagon is in remarkable condition it does have flaws. Remember it is 31 year old vehicle! The paint still shows well the interior...beautiful! and the engine bay...amazing! What about the undercarriage? I didn't bother to waste ad picture space of the cars's undercarriage because it is as nice as the rest of the car. No patchwork perfect fender lips great valances perfect floors hardly any oil spill....and zero rust!
