Time for me to transfer the pleasure and adventure of 560 ownership to the next sportsman. 1987,121,000 miles. As far as I can tell from the records I received when I bought the car, xcluding the Florida dealer from whom I bought it, am the third owner. (Most of it's life was spent in Florida.) Bought 4/2008 at 92,00 miles. All repair records of my ownership are available.
We bought such and old car because my wife and I are made quite ill by off-gassing fumes produced by newer car interiors, o we acquired Fraulein Bessie, repared to put some effort into keeping her going. Which we have.
There are too many new or re-built parts put in since 2008 to list (can be seen in the repair records) but included are a completely re-built engine and transmission (May 2012 -- 102,000 miles). VERY powerful and fast. Torque is such that manually down-shifted to third when leaving the ramp and entering traffic moves this 5000-pound car into place with real assurance.
We are selling because we have finally completed our move to a place where we really don't need a car. (I am aware that this is un-American.) (I drove it 5 days ago for the first time in three weeks, o get it washed for these pictures, nd to buy gas.) Also, nd importantly, have grown tired of trouble-shooting repair problems and worrying about possible unreliability. Yes, t is a Mercedes from the end of their Golden Age, ut it is also a 28-year-old car.
That said, t drives beautifully. Two current problems are a slow-leaking power steering pump (re-build will cost approx. $300.00) and the final adjustments of an ignition problem that sometimes causes a slight hesitation/tugging in stop-and-go traffic. (The current power steering pump was put in 2008-09.) More minor still, ight rear, ome part of the suspension system "thumps" when you hit a sharp bump. Was going to get it fixed sometime soon; my mechanic says it is not a safety issue and won't cost a fortune to fix. To my surprice the noise has not been a source of annoyance.Winter 2013-14, nd many trips on the Mass Pike to/from Boston, roduced small areas of fender/bumper rust. Very minor. Undercarriage has heavy rust-proofing and is sound. Black paint good. Historically, right side fender repair/replacement. In my time a scraped left rear door when a Boston jackass drifted through a stop sign at about 5mph. Well repaired. Car alarm disconnected.
Tan interior in very good shape. Front seats show abrasions but no cracks that go through; back seats are excellent. (Only non-toxic cleaners and conditioners used throughout.) Floor, eadliner, ash, oor panels, tc. excl. All controls, ights, indows, ower seats, tc. work. The 5-button ventillation controls will sometimes (rarely) go on or switch off but the corrective simply is to push the button gently again. A/C fine. Converted to new gas 2008 and was told then that the new stuff in an old-technoloy system won't cool as quickly as freon would, ut cool it does. Heating is outstanding including front and rear seats. The floor-level vent to the back seating area does not work. Not smoked in by us.
All five wheels were professionally refinished last fall. Original color. 3 new Michelin tires at the same time. All tires the same type; all excellent. Becker cassette radio; readout of some numbers incomplete. Otherwise works. Trunk very clean.
I am not a car dealer so please no shoppers. Those reading this ad who know or know of this car are aware of what it is. This is a good example.
If you wish a test drive (as you will) I am afriad I must request that you use no cologne/perfume or strong deodorant; it will make me sick and I won't be able to accommodate you. Also, ll driving will have to be done within posted speed limits. It is not a hot rod and I am not a teenager.
$6500.00. I have allotted $1000.00 for the 3 problems listed above. Hemmings website has two similar cars at $8900/8500. Mine is priced for a quick sale.
