Description

I AM SELLING THIS CAR WITH A NON-OP TITLE.
THIS IS A PROJECT CAR. DOES NOT PASS SMOG AS IS.

Up for sale is a 1983 Mercedes 280SE that was built in Germany and, ccording to the DMV issued plaque in the door, as imported to the US by Padre star Tony Gwynn. NO RESERVE!!!! HIGHEST BIDDER TAKES IT!
VIN : WDB12602212053582 -- This is a foreign imported car!
Buyer will need to pay $500 deposit within 24 hours and must pay full purchase amount within 7 days. I will only accept pay-pal, ashiers check, r cash in person. I reserve the right to take the auction down at any time to sell locally. I will contact the highest bidder if that is the case.
Overall the car has been fairly well maintained. Exterior is in pretty good shape. The paint peeling a in a few small spots on the roof but is otherwise in great condition, have received several compliments from random strangers at gas stations. Interior is O.K. Looks great from 5ft away but there are some tears in the driver seat and water damage in the windows.
You will need to get it smogged before you can legally drive it on the street. It's going need some exhaust work (new cat and mid muffler) because it currently hangs too low and bottoms out on big dips.
The car had electrical gremlins when I bought it. The windows need to be rewired (only the driver's side windows work and the door has to be open while you press the switch). The radio and sunroof don't work. The left headlight and interior lights don't either. I believe a new light switch would correct the issue.
I have a replacement OEM ignition switch which is often the source of many electrical issues, specially the sunroof.
The car also will come with:
-OEM Windshield Wiper/Turn Signal Switch (Wipers don't work)
-OEM Fuel Filter
-Stock Rear Muffler (You will need to buy a mid-stage muffler)
The water pump seal gave out just before I stopped driving the car so the water pump will also need to be replaced. The car will need to be towed. It's located in San Diego, A.
The big issue lies in the paperwork. It fell out of the BAR system a few years back and the process to get grey-market vehicles (imported & engine swap cars) back into the system is very elaborate. If you have the patience/motivation to tackle the challenge this would make a really cool project.
The easiest way to get around the smog issue would be to register the car in a state that does not have smog requirements.
If I had the time and a few grand I'd swap a new motor in and just get it re-certified by a BAR Referee station. I drove the car for about 5000 miles until the smog cert issue caught up with me and it was a great car while it lasted.
I need it gone by the end of the month and I'd rather see it go to a Padre fan than a scrap yard. Message me with questions. I can take more pictures by request and am more than happy to answer any questions.
