Description

Here is your chance to own one of Mercedes-Benz’s best and most expensive production cars at an unbelievably low starting bid and no reserve.
This is the second Ebay offering of this vehicle. One week after bid closing, he original successful high bidder chose not to wait 12 additional days for a new $1,792.86 rear window (from Germany) to be installed (at no additional cost to the buyer). He did not pay the $500.00 deposit and cancelled the purchase. Naturally, e was a used car dealer.
Before paying the full purchase price for a new rear window, y insurance company requested that I check the availability of a used (like new) glass. There were none available. If there had been a used rear window available the price would have been $850.00 plus shipping. Because the original high bidder was impatient to purchase the car, had the glass company leave the chrome trim in the trunk.
This is the very best car I've ever owned; I would drive it coast to coast andback again - now - today. Well, hen ... why am I selling it? I am 80 years oldon a fixed income. I have too many vehicles (cars, otorcycles, ntique motorbikes and an antique aluminum racing runabout). Medical bills are eating me alive. Need I say more? (The fact that I, ersonally, ould drive the car coast-to-coast is not any kind of guarantee or warranty; real or implied.)
In 2008 I drove a 1986 Porsche 911 from Maine to Georgia to attend a highschool reunion. A high school classmate always wanted a Porche 911 and he owned the car of my dreams: a 1986 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC. We both agreed to swap cars, ven-steven. Both cars had the same sticker price in 1986: $58,000.00. My total virtual investment in the SEC 560 at that time was $11,000.00. I have invested at least half again that amount in mechanical restoration, pgrades, tc.
The car has been a dependable runner and I have taken it on many long distance trips. But, ue to health reasons, have put less than a thousand miles on the vehicle in the past 4-years. Everyone who knows cars knows this: Older cars should be driven, riven driven but I have only been able to occasionally take the car on a short drive. I have kept the insurance, nspection sticker and registration up to date. This vehicle has a strong engine that uses no oil. The odometer ceased to work on August 5, 011 at 134,622 miles. I would rate the condition of the body of this car as “ Fair.” I would rate the paint job as “poor.” Mechanically, would rate the car as “good.” The car has never let me down or left me stranded. It has dependably taken me on many round trips from Maine to Georgia, exas, nd Michigan.
I have seldom owned a vehicle without a trailer hitch so I purchased and installed the only receiver hitch available for this model car. It was a special order “one off.” I don’t remember the price but it was a doozie. 4 ½ years ago in the heat of Summer, towed a utility trailer from Maine to Western Vermont and returned with a sidecar motorcycle. The engine stayed cool and the transmission performed perfectly.
The vehicle runs and drives as good or better than most 1986 cars. It has been mechanically well maintained and has had all necessary work done to obtain a yearly Maine inspection sticker. There is approximately a 6" circle of flaking paint on the aluminum hood and a 6" triangle on trunk lid of the car plus an additional few small to medium areas of flaking paint. The spots look like hail damage but there is no denting. While waiting for the new glass to arrive the glass company taped plastic film over the missing rear window. When the tape was peeled off the paint came with it. There is minor rust rot at the rear of both of the left side wheel arches and some chrome flaking on the front bumper. When I "purchased" the car the owner told me that the sun roof needed some parts to be installed. I have not bothered to deal with the sun roof.
Recently the ABS light on the dashboard started to occasionally flicker on and off. My mechanic says that it is probably a front sensor that needs to be adjusted or, ore likely, he car needs a good long run. Aside from this “non-problem” the brakes work perfectly. Several months ago I loaned the car to a relative. He shut the door by pulling on the inside door handle and the latch spring broke. Consequently, he latch has to be reset (a simple operation) if the door is opened from the outside.
The gray leather interior is “fair.” The driver’s seat shows wear from 27 years of regular use and could be functionally “restored” with a matching inexpensive seat cover. The upholstery under the rear window needs to be re-sewn or replaced.
There may or may not be some additional minor items that could be fixed but do not affect the operation of the vehicle. The car is sold “AS-IS.” I do not have the time or strength to "doll up" the vehicle.
I am a private seller. Unlike most car sellers; I have personally owned this vehicle (for eight years). I have done my best to describe this item carefully and accurately, he fact that I would drive this vehicle coast to coast and back again does not imply that the car is guaranteed to do so. There is no guarantee or warranty of any kind. The pictures depict this item exactly as it is – what you see is what you get.
If you have any questions or concerns, lease feel free to contact me. Thanks for looking!
Car dealers please note: The final bid for this vehicle is not negotiable. Because of the nationwide reach of Ebay bidders, o one is allowed to view the vehicle until the $500 deposit has been made. Before the sale is finalized I will take more pictures, f requested to do so.
