1971 Mercury Cougar XR7

1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible
Only 1 of 1717 Produced
Second Owner - Low Mileage - AACA Winner

You are viewing a privately owned 1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible!
Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this rare vehicle.
You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the current owner who purchased the vehicle from the original owner in 1998.
The vehicle was originally from South Carolina before the current owner brought it up north. It is very solid and rust free vehicle that
took First Place at an AACA event. Mercury only produced 1,717 XR7 convertibles this year which makes this a rare vehicle. Please read and view all of the 36 pictures listed in the photo gallery which is below the detailed description area.
Would you buy a car on eBay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO.
That is why at Classic Cars Online, our listings will go over and show every area of the vehicle that is up for auction. Description: Written by the Owner.
Body & Paint: This XR7 convertible was re-painted in its original "Platinum" (Diamond Blue) color. (Code N) It was painted about six years ago with a base coat/clear coat finish. Originally a southern car for the first 27 years and never driven after that in the winter months, the car doesn't have any rust problems. It still retains all of its original body panels/floor pans with no metal patches or repairs. The paint has a great shine and doesn't seem to have any paint flaws. There are no dents, door dings or scratches on the body. The body panel alignment and gaps are all good. (The hood is about 1/8 inch off on the passenger side which I'm sure can easily be adjusted.)
Convertible Top: The black convertible top is in very good condition without any rips, holes or marks. The rear plastic window was updated to glass and is in great condition. The power top goes up and down properly with no problems with the pump motor or hydraulic system. The vehicle comes with two different convertible boot covers. (Blue that matches the interior color.)
Exterior Chrome/Trim: The chrome and trim are original to the vehicle and has never been re-chrome. There is no pitting, scratches, or oxidation. The stainless steel trim is in very nice condition. The only piece that has a ding/dent is the header piece that runs along the top of the windshield. It probably could be popped out. (This dent is only visible when the convertible top is down.)
Interior: The medium blue interior is original and is in very good condition. (Code: 6B) There are no rips or cracks in the seats. The XR7 models have a combination of leather and vinyl. This vehicle has front bucket seats with a center console and floor shifter. There were a few small cracks in the plastic arm rests, but they were filled/repaired. The XR7 models also originally had toggle switches which were a nice European touch. The gauges, wipers, lights, power seat, along with the factory AM/FM stereo radio are all working. The clock is not currently working. The vehicle is equipped with factory Air Conditioning that will need to be recharged or converted to the newer R134a freon. The vehicle still has what I believe to be the original tri-color striped floor mats. Tilt steering wheel.
Engine Compartment: Under the hood sits the original 351 Cleveland engine with a two barrel carburetor. It only has 76,566 miles on it and has never been taken apart or rebuilt. It doesn't burn oil, smoke, tick, or leak. The automatic transmission doesn't slip, jerk, or leak. The engine compartment still has the original look that hasn't been modified or played around with. I replaced the battery and battery box last year. (Replaced battery box because of minor corrosion.) Power Steering, Power Brakes, Air Conditioning, 351-2V Engine.
Trunk Compartment: The trunk compartment is very solid and stock looking. The jack and jacking tools along with the spare tire are all in their proper places. The original trunk mat is still installed.
Glass: There are no cracks in any of the glass pieces. There is a slight wiper mark on the drivers side of the windshield. All of the power windows are working without any problems.
Wheels & Tires: The factory wheels and hubcaps were swapped out for a set of 14" chrome Magnum 500 wheels in 2007. (The original wheels/hubcaps will also go along with the sale of the vehicle.) Mounted on these Magnum 500 wheels are radial white wall tires with 5,000 miles on them. All of the wheels and tires are in great condition.
Frame & Undercarriage: The underside of this South Carolina vehicle is very solid and rust free. It retains all it original sheet metal. (Floor pans, trunk pans, body panels.) It's clean but not detailed. (Original looking after 45 years.) A new dual Flow Master exhaust system was installed about 4,000 miles ago. It sounds great.
Documents & Paperwork: All of the original registrations from the original owner, Mr. Park, in South Carolina dating back to 2/10/71 until when I purchased the vehicle in 1998. I also have the 1971 owners' manual, AM/FM stereo radio manual, warranty facts booklet along with all the sales brochures.
The vehicle took first place in its class at an AACA meet. (Antique Automobile Club of America.)

Please read all of the terms before bidding. Our goal at Classic Cars Online, LLC. is to broker positive transactions between buyers and owners. We help with listing and presenting vehicles on eBay for the owners. We are not in possession and we have not inspected this vehicle. The owner provides us the information and photos for the eBay auction and has stated the representations are true to the best of his/her knowledge.
We also have a "Risk Free" 7 day inspection period AFTER the auction for the winner bidder.
(See below for details.) 1) The owner provides and is responsible for any and all representations within this auction and not Classic Cars Online, LLC. The owner states that the presentations are honest and accurate to the best of his/her knowledge and assumes all legal responsibilities for the vehicle and representations. 2) At the conclusion of the auction and upon reception of a Five percent (5%) deposit, Classic Cars Online, LLC. will place the winning bidder in touch with the owner to arrange for inspection or transportation. Classic Cars Online will accept the deposit on behalf of the owner. This deposit is due within 3 days of auction closing. The deposit can be paid with a Certified Bank Check. 3) An Inspection of the vehicle is Highly Recommended and must be done within 7 days of auction closing. The remaining balance, is due to the owner at inspection/acceptance. *If inspection is not completed within 7 days, or buyer waves his choice to inspect the vehicle, the deposit is nonrefundable and the deal is finalized. The inspection can be done by the buyer personally or a third party inspector that the buyer hires. 4) Full payment is due within 7 days of auction closing. You are not purchasing a new car that is claimed to be flawless. Instead, you are purchasing a vehicle that is old and expected to have normal wear and tear from age. The vehicle is sold "as is" where is without any warranty implied or expressed. All sales are final once inspected or paid in full. 5) If the vehicle was found to be materially misrepresented at the inspection, your deposit is refundable and you are not liable for the purchase but this must be determined within the allotted seven (7) day inspection period. Regardless of our commitment to describe vehicles in as much detail as possible there will be imperfections. Failing to mention for example an item such as a small paint imperfection, a minor non-safety related item such as a switch etc, does not constitute refusal of the vehicle by the buyer. We require you to put in writing via email or fax the material misrepresentations in order to receive a refund of your deposit. Taking a few photos of the misrepresented area for us to see, will help point out and confirm your concerns. "Changed my Mind" is not a valid excuse for your deposit to be refunded. 6) Bidding on this auction demonstrates your acceptance to indemnify and hold harmless Classic Cars Online, LLC. from any liability resulting from this transaction, including any reasonable attorney fees. 7) PLEASE DO NOT bid unless you have full intentions of purchasing at your bid price. Your bid is a legally binding contract as eBay clearly states. We reserve the right to end the auction early. We also reserve the right to verify any or all bids to ensure excellent auction integrity. Please do not ask the sellers reserve price as we will not disclose this information. 8) WE DO NOT accept bid retractions. If you bid and retract you will be added to our blocked bidder list and future bids will NOT be accepted. eBay allows for you to triple check your bid before finally entering the bid. Our integrity is impeccable as our feedback shows and we demand the same from our bidders. 9) Bidder/Buyer is responsible for all the shipping costs, insurance, title work, and must be 18 years of age or older. Remember, whether you are buying a car/truck from eBay, Hemmings or Collector Car Trader, you will inevitably want to go and inspect the vehicle. Our system is better than most as you can actually see several photos of the vehicle and enjoy a much more lengthy description, and then have a chance to inspect the vehicle after the auction. ss
