Up for bid is our 1979 Mercury Cougar XR7. Please read this description in its entirety BEFORE you bidThis car features:

  • 302 cubic inch V-8 (5.0L) Engine
  • Automatic Transmission
  • True Dual Exhaust With A Nice Rumble
  • Air Conditioning - Non functional; we're not sure what's wrong other than it blows hot - it has been converted to R-134
  • Cruise Control - functioning just fine
  • Tilt Wheel
  • Original AM/FM Stereo w/ 8-Track Player - functioning just fine
  • Bronze Paint Job - done in 2007 & Holding up Pretty Well
  • 2 Boxes of 8-Track Tapes - see pictures
  • Original Owner's Manual & Some Records / Receipts / Et Cetera
  • Current Virginia safety inspection sticker - valid until September 2016

Some things we have done to the car since we've had it:

    • Replaced the exhaust with true dual exhaust & dual catalytic converters - 2009
    • Replaced Belts & Alternator - 2009
    • Replaced Fuel Pump - 2010
    • Replaced Right Rear Wheel Bearing, Brake Shoes - 2010
    • Replaced Power Steering Pump & Belt - 2012
    • Replace Brake Master Cylinder - 2013
    • New Battery - October 2015
    • Regular maintenance - oil changes every 3000 miles, brakes, tires, et cetera

Just like any older car, there is ALWAYS something to do to it - here are some of the issues: (Please be aware that all the defects might not be in this list)

    • The body is in generally good shape and the paint looks pretty good, but there are a couple of rust spots - one pinhole in the hood and some rust along the trim on above the windshield.
    • The chrome is just starting to rust a little bit on the rear bumper
    • The dome light lens is cracked - see picture
    • Three of four center hub caps are missing and a couple of the wheel trim rings are off (they were making noise while driving, so they were put into the trunk)
    • The tires have plenty of tread, but are just starting to get some dry-rot cracks - they still hold air just fine.
    • The car sometimes runs a bit on the warmer side - to the upper side of the normal range - our mechanic diagnosed it as a non-fully opening thermostat and said that it's likely to break off a bolt in the engine when removing the thermostat housing which would require drilling & tapping - we decided to not make this repair - but it should be done.
    • The Air Conditioning does not function - it blows hot air - we have not had this diagnosed, but the nozzles have been changed (not by us) to R-134.
    • The front seats are worn - see pictures.
    • The Mercury logo is missing from the front - see pictures
    • There are perhaps other defects/problems not obvious. We are not trying to hide anything about the car's condition and welcome you or your mechanic to come and inspect the car. If you're looking for one of these cars, this is a pretty nice one. It's not a show car, but it's a good one to drive. We're selling it because we don't have a garage in which to store it and management AKA 'she who must be obeyed' has decreed that it needs to find a new someone to love on it. So, we're hoping someone on eBay can find room for her in their garage and heart. No reserve - good luck!
