Description

1964 Mercury Park Lane Marauder, original color peacock turquoise and black interior. This car is nearly all original. Options include power steering, tinted glass and the Park Lane Sports Package (automatic on-the-floor, bucket seats and console). Z-code 390-300 horsepower V8, 3-speed cruise-o-matic automatic transmission. I'm also told it has a heavy duty rear suspension which may be part of the Sports Package. 107,000 miles. Originally from the Raleigh, North Carolina area until I bought it in 1997. The body is very straight and nearly rust-free, with a few pinholes in two areas as indicated in the photos and around the lower lip of the trunk opening where the rubber seal (which is missing) would go. An area of pinholes on the right quarter was repaired before I bought the car and needs repaired again. One pea-size hole is on the lower lip of the left quarter molding, apparently where water was trapped. Any pinholes on this car are very isolated and the metal around them is just as thick as the rest of the car. The previous owner told me this Marauder was repainted once - about 1987 - and the finish has aged well. I am the third owner.

This car originally had power brakes but a previous owner removed the booster which I still have. The only things not original: the inner part of the driver's seat appears to have been reupholstered as the pattern isn't exactly like the rest. This must've been decades ago as it has aged the same as the rest of the seats. Also, after I bought the Marauder I replaced the 14-inch wheels with 15-inch ones from a mid-60s Thunderbird and found appropriate-looking period spinner wheel covers for it.

This is a former multiple-trophy-winning show car that has not been started in 15 years but has always been in dry garage storage since I've owned it. After sitting that long, it does not run and will take some work to get it running and drivable...so the buyer must have it shipped (see shipping options) or come and pick it up if you have the means. Family health issues forced me to stop spending time on the car and when those issues subsided my own health issues became a concern. When last run it had a recurring exhaust leak where the exhaust manifolds seal on the cylinder heads. Resurfacing the heads - or possibly just replacing the manifolds - would fix it permanently. Also, something was draining the battery overnight. I suspected the glove box light was either shorting out or staying on. The brakes and transmission need a complete overhaul. A hole is in the bellhousing, apparently where a previous owner struck something. It never affected transmission function, however.

This Park Lane Marauder has a beautiful interior but the original headliner and carpeting need replaced. A small amount of the seat stitching has dry-rot. To my knowledge the build sheet is still under the carpeting. I have new carpeting still in the box ready to install.

All of the glass is tinted, appears to be original and is in good shape except for the windshield which has a vertical crack down the middle of it.

I mounted speakers on the rear shelf and an AM-FM-cassette under the driver's seat when I drove it regularly.

Several extra parts & literature go with the car, one part being a rare, never mounted NOS hood ornament.

This car was built on November 22nd 1963, the day of the John F. Kennedy assassination. Ironically, he owned at least one 1964 Mercury himself.
