Description

I have owned my 1956 Mercury Convertible since November 1990. The 1956 Mercury's have always been my favorite car. I owned several 1956 Mercury's in high school and college. A 1956 Merc Montclair 4 Dr Hardtop was our first car when I married my college sweetheart and we kept it until I graduated from college. Then as graduates I wanted to buy my first new car. I sold that Mercury which had very low miles and regretted it after the new car feeling wore off. I looked for another Mercury over a 10 year period. I traveled all over the country trying to find a good car to restore. Then I decided to upgrade to a convertible. I found this Mercury in Boulder, Co. and it was in great condition for restoration. I was in the process of restoring another car so the Mercury went into storage.I ended up restoring several cars over the next many years. I was always going to start on the Mercury but it always was put on the back burner. Now we are selling our restoration shop and with retirement I realize I probably won't get it done. This is a great car with minimal rust. The rear floorboard area has a large area that is bad. I don't know if it is from the convertible brake fluid leaking or what happened but I have a replacement piece from a donor car that is rust free. (See picture.) It has Power windows, Power steering,Town & Country Radio and a Power seat I found from a 1956 Ford. Everything needed to restore it is with the car. Some parts and many new pieces are in my basement and garage. I also have a set of original flipper '56 Mercury hubcaps. The car has always been in dry clean storage. There are not many of these vehicles left and you can pick out all the colors, interior, drive-train etc.The rear quarter panels have some pinholes but are in very good condition for the age and the inner structure is also very good. The rocker moldings have never been off the car so I don't know the condition of the rockers but they appear to be in fair condition. The large ribbed ornaments on the rear quarters are excellent. This attests to the overall condition of the car as these are always pitted very bad. I know very little about the engine and have never tried to do anything with it or with the transmission. I do have an extra automatic trans for the car. The right side molding is off the car and will need some repair as there is a flattened out area. The wheels were repainted last year. I was going to paint the car red and black with a black Hartzcloth top.I have a lot of miscellaneous parts that will go with the car. Thanks for looking and I would like to see it finished. When was the last time you saw a 1956 Mercury Mntclair Convertible?
P.S. The odometer shows 7570 but I doubt if correct. It is probably 107,570 or whatever. This would be more realistic.
