This fine vintage '40 Mercury has the spirit of yesteryear in it. In the 1950's most folks couldn't afford the fancy custom body work and paint, o they'd put together something like this. You had to save your nickles and dimes! Folks, eet "THE BOSS".

THE BOSS, s affectionately known, s a classic 1940 Mercury Convertible Coupe. No ordinary Mercury, his little drop top features a built Flathead V8 with all the bells and whistles. She's a runner.

Under the hood, ou'll find a 1948 "V8" Flathead "59AB" engine. This mill has been ported, olished, ored and relieved, isplacing 286 cubic inches and churning out 200+ horsepower. Now that's swell. With a 3 3/8 bore paired with a 4" stroke, ou can really "get lost" in the 1950s or today. This sweet ride has a vintage drivetrain including the RARE and old timer preferred Columbia two speed overdrive rear end. Now that is the "bee's knees" right there folks. The transmission was removed, ebuilt, and the clutch replaced last year. The steering bearing was replaced, ront hubs inspected and re-packed and brake shoes cleaned. Just over $1100 was spent on the latest service. The drivetrain and chassis have had restoration work done front to back.

This old dog has a few "new" tricks, he charging system has been converted to a 12-volt setup with a negative ground. There are also two discreetly mounted temperature gauges mounted under the dash as well to monitor the engine banks. You knew these old Flatheads ran twin water pumps... right? Wait till you hear the exhaust. Be sure to play our video of this Flatty in action.

The cylinder heads are lightweight Offenhauser aluminum units that has been ported and polished. These are great flowing heads. A previous trick deuce carburetor setup was running on this engine, ut she prefers this Holley 4bbl. carburetor. The exhaust system consists of good ol' Reds Headers running to true duals.

The rare Columbia Overdrive Differential is intact and servicable.

Open the doors and you'll find a sweet old interior. The upholstery is in great shape while the dash retains the original gauges and controls. The factory steering wheel was also retained to keep the feel of this car. The original gauges are just beautiful, ut not a one of them are working. There are auxillary gauges under the dash to monitor water temperature on both banks along with a discreet tachometer.

The vintage dial radio is still in place. You won't see one of these everyday. The radio is for more for looks, ot working.

The interior is done in red vinyl with red carpeting along with some custom woodwork on the dash paired up with the original instrumentation, s previously mentioned.

The paint is an old finish that has been polished over many, any times. This paint has a great shine to it, ut a number of imperfections and character. We all have plenty of "character" the older we get... right?"

There is faint lacquer checking in areas you can see along with some chips and touch-ups. The body is altogether solid with no notable corrosion damage.

The brightwork has a great patina to it. Look at that old grille & vintage "Mercury" bumper guard on " THE BOSS."

The convertible top is in very good to excellent condition. The canvas seals well. The glass rolls up and down as it should.

We took a cruise to the Dallas Love Field Frontiers of Flight Museum to photograph this vintage '40 Mercury. Be sure to honor our veterans with a visit to the historic Flight Museum, ocated only minutes from Texas Classic Cars of Dallas.

The undercarriage is overall very solid. The frame, racing, nd flooring really looks great. Check out the vintage Columbia 2-speed "overdrive" rear end, feature this Mercury was born with.

The trunk is in good shape as well.

Enjoy our remaining photos and again feel free to contact Dave at 214-213-7072 or Maris at 214-616-2317 with any questions or concerns. This is your opportunity to own a very unique 1940 Mercury Convertible and a piece of 50's Rods history.
