Description

I have completely redone this 1958 MGA Coupe; restoring it (every nut and bolt ) to a high standard in 2016 ! Purchased car from longtime MGA Club member in Colorado Springs. He did a complete restoration of the frame; removing the body to do so. Gave up the rest due to age. The car is an original California car; was garage stored duringrestoration in Colorado. We completely redid the body: stripping to bare metal; removing even the smallest hints of rust. Treated the entire body with Eastwood "Rustmort". Applied several coats of high quality primer/ sealer; wet sanded w 1800 grit. Next we applied a complete "skim" coat of Bondo and sanded off vast majority; added Guidecoat; and finished up with 2000 grit wet sanding; resulting in a very straight body ! We applied five coats of year correct red paint followed by five coats of high quality clear (Dektron). We waited over three weeks for paint to harden; then wet sanded w 1800/2000. Next we buffed the entire body in stages w 3M 1,2,3 to a high gloss. Entireundercarriage was redone and treated w POR 15 where needed. Wheel wells coated w Wurthrubberized undercoating. The engine was completely rebuilt w many new parts: complete teardown, cylinder bores cleaned up, heads redone, hardened seals installed, newvalves and springs installed. MGB timing gear installed. Carbs were totally rebuilt. New GM Alternator installed. All new switches and relays; headlight relays installed w new bulbs all around. Radiator boiled out and pressure tested, new hoses all around. New headliner installed overcompletely redone interior: proper leather seat covers over new foam; new door panels; floorboards treated w waterinhibitor; sound deadening installed over new correct carpet; new rubber mats installed, under dash firewallheat shield installed. All instruments work as they should. High quality wooden steering wheel installed. Unique Dealer installed windshield washer pump on dash was also redone. New seals on allwindows and doors; windshield; rear window; side and roll up windows removed and new rubber installed. Door roll upmechanisms redone. Gas tank dipped and boiled out; new electric fuel pump installed. Interior of trunk redone and new carpet and spare tire cover installed. Lock for trunk installed. All brakes and bearings rebuilt/replaced w new parts. Brake drums turned, new master and wheel cylinders installed w new shoes front and rear. Wire wheels rebuilt; spline centered; primed and painted. New tires installed. I could go on. What was my motivation in doing this build ? My Uncle Jack Flaherty raced a similar ca (although factorylightweights ) at Sebring in 1959, 60, 61, 62. I have been looking for years to find a coupe like this. I was going to make a replica of one of his Sebring rides, but; this body andframe was in such good condition, I couldn't cut it up ! I have sinceacquired a 1957 MGA racing car so this baby has to go. Most parts (new and used ) sourced from Scarburough Faire. This is an exceptional, very recently, highly restored car. This is the 11th MGA I have restored; so I am not new to this kind of project. I'd like this car to have a new home with an appreciative owner. Be glad to answer any questions or provide additional photos. Many pictures of build available.
