Up for auction is a very solid 1969 MGB-GT. The MG is a complete runner driver deserving and ready for a full restoration! I purchased this car close to a year ago with intentions of restoring it but the project list is just not decreasing fast enough so I am letting several of them go!
As you can see from the photos, he interior on this MG is very clean (some aftermarket touches with door handles and window cranks that can be easily replaced with original equipment). No rips or tears in the seats, arpets or door panels. The headliner is out of the car but included (insulation and backing are in place just no headliner). The dash does have a cap and a cover and all look very, ery nice! The after-market steering wheels is beautiful and is a nice touch to finish off the interior.
The body on the MG is very straight but is ready for some minor body work and a repaint. There is light bubbling showing in front of the rear wheels on both sides, he back corner of the driver’s door and behind the front wheel on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The rear valence (below the bumper) was damaged at some point and does have a considerable amount of body filler that should be removed and panel replaced. The hood, ops of fenders and tops of rear quarters are in primer (green) while the balance of the car remains painted but does have clear peeling etc. Overall the car is very presentable and a real attention getter!
The floor boards are very solid with no signs of prior repair but three small areas that will need attention (One area about the size of a quarter on the vertical portion of the driver’s floorboard, ne approximately 6” long and ½” wide along the outer driver’s outer seat rail and another very similar along the passengers outer seat rail.)
Mechanically the car starts, uns and drives fine but is tired. I drive the car around town etc. and it does fine but it is ready for an overhaul on the running gear. Motor does blow a little smoke between shifts (valve guides) and seems a bit short on power. Gearbox seems to shift smoothly and clutch seems strong. I am not hearing any noises in the rear-end that concern me. I believe the brakes may be glazed over from sitting as the car does not stop as it should. Peddle feels good just the stopping is a little less than I would expect. Maybe that is just 1969 MG but it certainly does not meet my expectation. And it would not be an MG if it did not have a slight oil leak! Last, ice wire wheels (5 of them) and new tires!
Electrically the car seems fine with a new starter and alternator. Radio (aftermarket CD player) works, eadlights work, riving lights work, ach works, lower motor works, indshield wipers work, il pressure gauge works and horn works. The speedometer, as gauge, emp gauge, linkers and side marker lights are not currently working.
I have tried my best to describe the MG to the best of my ability based on what I have experienced and my knowledge of MGs (which is limited). This is a very nice little car that deserves and is ready for a restoration. Despite that, t gets lots of attention whenever I take it out and can be driven while the restoration is in progress.
These little MGs are getting hard to find and are an exceptional value. If you are looking for a sunny southern California MG but not really interested in paying an arm and a leg for it perhaps this MGB-GT is one to be considered! Happy bidding!!!
