For saleis my 1959 MG MGA Roadster.
"The First of a New Line" -- That was the marketing approach for MG as it rolled out its fresh MGA to the public in 1955. These cars were vastly different from any MG prior featuring a wider chassis, ower seating position, more powerful "B-series" motor etc. It also features independent suspension and rack and pinion steering. The body was a much cleaner design sitting lower and wider with beautiful consistent body lines and a teethy front grill.
In total, 01,081 MGA's were produced globally from 1955-1962 in roadster and coupe form with either 1500, 600, 600 MKII, nd Twin Cam designations. For 1959, nly 23,319 were produced globally. Of these, nly 6,149 1500 Roadster's were imported to the U.S. which is the second lowest production year behind 1955. Truly a rare car by production number standards and even rarer to see driving down the road which is why it gets so much attention!
This '59 model was a past barn find as it sat essentially untouched from, hat I was told when I bought it, 965 to 1995 when it then underwent refreshing to bring it up to road worthy condition. At the time, he interior was cleaned and the motor was gone through to make it run dependently.
In 2006, t underwent a fully body off restoration. Do not mistake my words for the car being fully restored, nly the body was. The car was taken down to the bare metal and done right with the fenders off. There was very minor rust on the lower rear corners which was properly fixed. The body restoration was professionally done, ot a backyard type of job, nd I have a book with many pictures of the work. I'd like it to be known as well that the British Racing Green is not the original color. It is originally Glacier Blue, ut the BRG is iconic and looks much better than the blue. Also at this time, new grille, ew front and rear bumpers, ew wire wheels, nd a new banjo steering wheel were all installed.
The interior appears to have a lot of originality and features the replacement banjo style steering wheel and original Jaeger and Smith gauges, s well as heat. The seats, rm rest, nd door panels appear to be original as the gray would have been offered with the blue exterior but I cannot verify if it is truly original. All of the gauges work except for the fuel gauge and the odometer is showing just under 35,300 miles. I am led to believe this is the original mileage due to the length of time it was in storage (almost 30yrs!) and the fact that the odometer is still working.
The engine is the original 1,489cc making 72hp with twin carbs and it starts right up every time with no smoke but has developed a verysmall exhaust leak from the gasketand it quiets down when the motor heats up and not annoying when driving and enjoying the car. The car possesses good acceleration, mooth shifting through all 4 gears with no whine, ood braking, nd a tight suspension.
The convertible top will need to be replaced but I bought it this way and only drive it on nice sunny days so I never bothered with it. The car comes with the original tonneau cover, nd all of the original parts such as: grille, ront and rear bumpers, ire wheels and spare, nd banjo steering wheel. It also comes with the original tools and a mountain of documentation and pictures.
There is over $16,500 in receipts as pictured with $6,700 of this accounting for the high quality body work and paint. The pictures of the restoration are only a handful of the ones I have, here is a whole picture book full of them. Additionally, 'm throwing in all of the memorabilia I have for the car including the owner's manual and some posters. I have also recently ordered a British Motor IndustryHeritage Trust Certificate.
The MGA offered here possesses many opportunities as it is presently of good driver quality vehicle with a very solid frame, ody structure, nd confident mechanicals. The car is complete and can be driven the way it is or it is a candidate to restore to a high level. Either way, n opportunity at my asking price of $20,000. It gets tons of interest, tares, nd thumbs up when I take it out as the pictures don't do it justice, t's a beautiful car.
