Description
This is my 1988 Nissan Patrol. GQ series. I had to put 1980 in the listing due to the non-U. S. Vin. The Nissan Patrol has been sold around the world for 50 years. but we here in the U. S. only got it in the 1960s. It has a long reputation for unmatched reliability and ruggedness. The GQ series started in 1988 and is often considered the best model. The list of features is remarkable. especially considering it came out in 1988. Starting with a 4. 2 liter straight six gasoline engine producing roughly 170hp and 230 ft/lbs of torque stock. Its bolted to a five speed manual transmission with high and low transfer case. The Patrol features massive solid axles both front and rear featuring 4. 11 gear ratios and a factory limited slip diff in the rear. Disk brakes are fitted at all four corners from the factory. From there the suspension consists of coil springs all around for fantastic articulation and flex. No restrictive leaf springs or fragile shackles to worry about. There is even a remote rear sway bar release as original equipment. Simply pull a lever and the rear axle is free floating. Manually locking front hubs are nearly unbreakable. The interior is in pretty good shape for a 27 year old 4x4. The headliner is perfectly intact. and the dash is uncracked. In fact the only real issue is the outside bolster of the drivers seat is worn through. Everything else has held up very well. This being a long wheel base model. it has three rows of seating. Enough to hold seven people comfortably. The rear bench seat is able to fold flat. flip forward. or be removed completely. The middle seats fold down too and makes enough space to sleep in on a camping trip. The windows are manual. and there are sliding windows in the very rear. Of course they aren't necessary as my truck has cold air conditioning. All four doors open properly and are pretty much rust free. The rear features "barn doors". Both of these are also perfectly functional and the hinges are still strong. They latch cleanly and solidly. My Patrol has a few mods to point out. As you can see it has a three inch suspension lift. and is currently fitted with 33 inch tires and aftermarket wheels. I also should mention the optional long range fuel tank that holds 32 gallons of gas. The rear guards have been chopped to allow extra clearance for the rear tires. A massive aftermarket bull bar is mounted on the front too. Two powerful halogen lamps help with night runs. A tow hitch is attached allowing this Patrol to tow up to 6000 pounds. Now. I imported this Patrol from Australia and it is completely legal under the 25 year exemption. As such it is exempt from all Federal EPA and DOT regulations. It is currently registered in Arizona and is easily transferrable to any state except California. The TB42 engine is not able to pass the California smog visual test. That being said. it is easy to insure and actually gets quite good fuel mileage. I have taken many trips and it hasn't let me down. I installed new spark plugs. custom made plug wires. recently overhauled the carb. and just replaced the water pump. It runs great. So far the Patrol has been to Superstition. Ocotillo. and I just got back from Big Sur. Not to mention plenty of trips to local off road trails such as Pancake Rock and Otay truck trail. I have included pictures from all of them. I have also included a picture of the Patrol with the Sydney Bay Bridge and Opera House in the background taken right before it was shipped. We here in the U. S. were not lucky enough to get these when they came out. but we can have them now. The Patrol was used for several years by the U. N. in some of the harshest environments on Earth. It has been the truck of choice when reliability and durability are a must. In fact the Patrol has been called "Australias toughest truck" for decades now. Few other vehicles can match the Patrols abilities. The Patrol is fantastic off road. but it is also perfectly livable on a daily driver basis. It cruises comfortably at 80 mph on the freeway while getting around 23 mpg. It is the best of both worlds. Now. I want to point out that this is an off road truck and as such has the usual scratches and dents one would expect of this. Its not perfect but it is very solid. It should also be mentioned that this truck is right hand drive. Its easier to get used to than you might imagine. I have a clean Arizona title and copies of all importation paperwork will be given to the new owner. The truck is here in San Diego and can be easily driven anywhere. Parts are not a problem either. I am easily able to get anything needed. From basic service and tune up all the way to portal axles and locking diffs. There are tons of aftermarket parts available for these. My reserve price is below what a comparable Land Cruiser would go for. And the Patrol is superior to the Toyotas. Range Rovers. and Jeeps that are so typical at the off road events. You would be hard pressed to find anyone driving something other than a Patrol or Land Cruiser in the Australian outback. And of those two. the Patrol is considered the more robust. For what I am asking you cant build a Jeep as capable. I am perfectly happy to help with shipping if needed and I can also store it for a little while if its helpful. I have tried to be thorough about everything. but feel free to ask any questions you might have.
