Description
1988 OLDSMOBILE Vin # 1G3WR14W1JD333581 - originally a GM Factory car with only 1278 original miles - then maintained as part of GM Heritage collection before being sold recently - to be sold on a BILL OF SALE ONLY as the car is a prototype it was not classified for road use and would be considered a candidate for collectors or museums. THIS CAR CANNOT BE TITLED FOR RAOD USE Some History on this interesting car: In 1988 the Indianapolis Motor Speedway chose Oldsmobile to pace "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", ith retired united states air force general Chuck Yeager behind the wheel. Traditionally a manufacturer builds many pace car replicas, ften 1000s. But in 1988 Oldsmobile chose to build only 50 Cutlass Convertible Indy Pace Car Editions. All 50 were "used on track" on race day and in "500 Festival" activities and were essentially hand built. General Motors/Oldsmobile contracted "Cars and Concepts" of Brighton, i to build each of these 50 unique cars. Following the race 50 very select Oldsmobile dealers were given the opportunity to purchase one of these cars. The price was set at full invoice for a standard International series Coupe ($14,000.00) plus the cost of the Conversion (an additional $13,997.00). Each was highly optioned including the first ever application of "Heads Up Display" in an American production vehicle developed by Hughes Electronics. After most of the 50 were claimed, aid for and delivered to the lucky Oldsmobile dealers who said yes, he story of these cars gets more interesting. After they were in the dealers hands across the country, M discovered some issues with the Federal Certification of these one off models. Each dealer was asked to return them to GM where they were to be destroyed and receive full credit of purchase price. Most of the 50 were returned for the credit, ut two dealers kept the vehicles leaving by all accounts only two remaining. The car you see here was not claimed by any dealerships and appears to be the only one which remained with GM over the years and became eventually part of the Gm "Heritage Collection". After the GM bankruptcy and government bailout in 2008-2009 Gm was forced to sell much of its collection and that is how this car came into private hands. The other 2 that remain are in poor condition, ne I have seen personally and the other in pictures. So this is the finest example available of this unusual car anywhere in the world. The car is cosmetically and mechanically in exceptional "like new" condition and is totally original throughout including the tires! Truly a piece of GM and now of the demised Oldsmobile History. Stored in a climate controlled setting and always covered and regularly started and allowed to run. Everything works with the exception of the heads up display (may need a bulb). I have driven the car and it drives well. Remember selling on "Bill of Sale Only" - CANNOT BE TITLED FOR ROAD USE
