Description

1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme/442 Clone Code 75 Matador Red Convertible This Oldsmobile up for auction is the perfect classic droptop to enjoy the rest of the spring. summer and into the fall weather. If you have been looking for that classic daily driver. then this rare convertible may have your name on it! These 1970's muscle cars have incredible investment potential and have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. Remember. when the top goes down. the price goes up! THIS OLDSMOBILE DOES HAVE THE ORIGINAL NUMBERS MATCHING ROCKET 350 ENGINE!!! I was told that everything under the hood is factory original as purchased new. The valve covers have the original gold paint on them. Even the original windshield washer bottle is still present and accounted for. As the old saying goes a car only comes original once. The gentleman I purchased this car from was the nephew of the original owner out of Perrysburg. Ohio. According to him the mileage is original at just over 57. 00. This Cutty starts right up with a new starter that was installed in 2012 along with a new Interstate battery at that time. The engine really sounds great and drives very smooth. I believe the mileage is original by how well this car starts. sounds and drives straight as an arrow down the road with fingertip control. Anyone who has previously owned one of these cars knows exactly what this car feels like. It's just very hard to find an original code 75 Matador Red convertible with a white top and white interior. Everyone who knows these cars knows this color and interior combination is the most popular and most desirable. There is a minor blemish in the front of the passenger side fender. but barely noticeable. This is a 44 year old car. so it does have some small scrapes and touch ups. There was some body repair work done under the Supreme chrome body side molding. but the majority of this paint looks to be the original factory code 75 Matador red. The new owner may want to address some rust issues above the rear wheel well opening moldings. Although you can see the moldings are attached. The new owner may want to address those issues during the winter months after enjoying themselves for the warm weather season. The doors open and close like back in 1971. The original blue drivers door decal shows just how original this car is. All the seat belts are present for a family of six. The drivers portion of the bench seat did have some seams splitting. so the bottom seated portion was professionally replaced. This model does come with the center arm rest. so the driver can relax with the arm rest while cruising down the highway with the top down. That was always an enjoyable option that somehow left us. If you have a sweetie then the arm rest can always be put back up and your special someone can slide right on over like back in the good old days. All the windows roll up and down like when this car came out of the factory showroom. The interior shows in nice condition as seen in the pictures. The trunk lid is one of the cleanest 70-72 convertible trunk lids I've ever seen. The convertible top looks to be the original and has a back glass window. The top is not perfect. but I would say it should be good for a couple of seasons. and then the new owner may want to replace it. There is an original white California convertible top boot included in the trunk. That can be placed over the top when the top is down in the well. All of the original factory decals are still in place in the engine compartment and under the trunk lid. The only non original decal on this car is the one on the air cleaner which is a very nice aftermarket original replacement. That's how complete this old classic still is. The front and the rear floor pans are the originals and have never been replaced. I've never had the car up on a lift. but in my opinion from looking under the car at the frame it still appears in nice condition. I believe the carpeting is original and still looks very good. There is a new set of four brand new black carpeted floor mats. This Olds rides on a set of four B. F. Goodrich Radial T/A raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with good tread mounted on Super Stock II wheels painted the original silver. All four wheels have chrome lug nuts. all four bolt-on center caps. and all four beauty trim rings. There is a 10-bolt rear-end. but I am unsure of the gear ratio. The original trunk floor had some minor repair and was then coated with spatter spray for the trunk to stay in nice condition for many years to come. The inside of the trunk has the trunk light option that works with the original two piece factory trunk mat installed back in its proper place. In fact. this car was ordered with the deluxe lighting package. so even the under the hood light still works. The trunk carries a full size Super Stock II spare with a jack. jack stand. bumper mount and crow bar. This way if there is ever a mishap on the road with a quick tire change you can be back on the road in minutes looking complete. The chrome looks to be in drivers quality condition or better. Even the original front license plate bracket is still on the front bumper. Those are usually long gone. but the original one is still in place. This convertible was ordered from the factory with the rare air conditioning option. It still looks like it's all hooked up. but the belt is missing. so getting the a/c working again will be up to the new owner. The compressor does spin freely. so with a belt and a charge the next owner could potentially be driving with the top down. and ice cold A/C blowing directly on them on those hot summer days. The majority of people didn't order A/C back in the day. since they had the option to put the top down. That was considered a luxury option to have back in 1971. The original dash pad is in very nice shape. and I couldn't find any cracks anywhere. The dash still has the chrome around the edges of the dash. which usually disappeared over the years. That makes the dash board on these cars look super nice. The original AM radio is still present and the light turns on the dial face plate. but does not seem to be hooked up. This Olds was factory ordered with power steering. power disc brakes. and a power convertible top. Steering these cars is simply a delight and stopping them with power disc brakes is always wonderful. The wipers work on both speeds. All the head lights. bright lights. all four tail lights. all four brake lights. all four turn signals. all four cornering lights. emergency flashers. nbsp;and even the license plate light all work as they should. When the pictures were shot yesterday the headlights looked foggy. so they were replaced by my mechanic with brand new ones today. I just don't have time to run over there and shoot new pictures with the new headlights. but I assure the winning bidder that they all work and look awesome now. The speedometer and odometer work properly. and the gas gauge is accurate. Even the horn works along with the seat belt buzzer when you slip the original 44 year old original genuine GM key into the ignition as you sit down in the drivers seat. That buzzer was usually broke or ripped out many many years ago. but still buzzes today. All four interior courtesy lights work as they should. There is a factory Oldsmobile vanity mirror on the passenger side sun visor. This sale comes with a clean and clear Ohio title. There is also the original broadcast sheet that was found. but barely anything is legible on it. That will be included with this sale along with a 1971 Cutlass/442 owner's manual inside the glove box. These older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find in this condition. The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible with the Rocket 350/260 horsepower engine. and the air conditioning option listed at $30. 60 in high condition. which they consider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored. or an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $14. 90 in average condition. which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint. trim. and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! As shown in the pictures this Olds Convertible leans closest to what Nada classifies as an average condition car. but I want any bidders to bid exactly what they feel this car is worth. Nada has the lowest condition value at $10. 65 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration. but mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car. but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. If this Convertible were a true 442 those prices would be more than double. Why not drive the same looking car for a mere fraction of those prices. An aftermarket twin scooped W-30 ram-air hood in a nice reproduction version can be purchased for around $500. A set of new 1971 442 grilles can also be purchased in an aftermarket reproduction for around $300. Those items would make this car much more authentic looking as a 442. Whatever this classic convertible sells for in this no reserve auction is a win/win investment. This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have shown to consistently escalate in value. These GM A-Body muscle cars are the finest handling cars I have ever driven. This car is for the guy or girl that used to have one back in high school and would like to relive their youth or for someone who simply wants a classic convertible to enjoy the upcoming warm weather. Here is a prime opportunity to acquire your dream car at a nominal price. I tried to list everything I know about this car when writing this description. If you feel I may have left anything out please ask as many questions as you like. This car is being offered at "No Reserve" on a 5-day listing. It will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening at 5:00pm Pacific. 7:00pm Central. or 8:00pm Eastern time depending on your location. This way the new owner could actually be cruising with the top down by next weekend! There are plenty of local car shows to attend this season!! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!!
