Here at Streetside Classics we do love our Oldsmobiles. Plenty of performance with a healthy dose of luxury on the side plus some of the best-looking sheetmetal of the muscle car era. This 1970 Cutlass convertible offers the same great A-body look and handling at a fraction of the cost of a Chevelle or GTO and does it with a dose of Oldsmobile luxury that makes these cars special. For many enthusiasts A-body styling hit its zenith in 1970 no matter what your favorite brand and it's hard to find one that isn't drop-dead gorgeous. This one is an older restoration so it shows some signs of use but in terms of visual impact it still packs a wallop. The white paint is still shiny fit and finish is decent and the pinstripes are nicely done highlighting the dramatic curves of the fenders. Is it perfect? No. But it does have an honesty to it that you'll appreciate even more kind of like the car up the street when you were a kid that you admired so much. Drive it without worries put the top down when it's sunny and never even think the word "trailer" again. Things like the front and rear bumpers are brand new so they really shine up well and most of the plastic lenses appear to be recent additions too simply because they look great. The rest of the bright trim is probably original and in great shape from the rib down the center of the hood to the stainless rocker trim. Most of the black interior was restored not too long ago including new seat covers door panels and carpets. There's no cracking or split seams and the dash pad still looks great which is important on a convertible that undoubtedly sees a lot of sun. Burled walnut inserts on the door panels match the dash which also has a basic set of instruments ahead of the driver and some white-faced auxiliary instruments for oil pressure temperature and volts underneath. The factory A/C is fully functional thanks to an R134a refrigerant upgrade. An AM/FM stereo radio looks almost like it was born there and there's an aftermarket center console that offers cup holders and an auxiliary 12V power outlet for your phone or GPS. There's a tidy black power convertible top with glass rear window (this is an Olds after all) and the trunk is finished with what appears to be the original mat and a full-sized spare with matching cover. Oldsmobile fans are rightly proud of the Rocket 350 that powers this Cutlass. Despite sharing the same displacement the Olds small block has an entirely different personality from its corporate cousins. Famous for its torque production an Edelbrock Performer 350 intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carburetor make a noticeable difference in the engine's performance out on the road. There's also an upgraded HEI ignition system and a great-sounding Flowmaster dual exhaust system with long-tube headers. Finished in Oldsmobile Gold it was rebuilt a few years ago and still runs extremely well and should continue to do so for years to come thanks to the high nickel content in the block that makes these engines quite durable. It's tied to a TH350 3-speed automatic and a stout 12-bolt rear end and with Oldsmobile's famous suspension tuning it feels sporty without being harsh. And no sporty Olds is complete without a set of those handsome SS II wheels with these wearing 255/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials all around.Documented with a build sheet dealer invoice and a stack of receipts for all the recent work this is an Oldsmobile that looks great but isn't so perfect you'll be afraid to drive it.
