Description

1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass "442" being sold with "No Reserve" This could very well be the winter project you have been waiting for!! This Oldsmobile up for auction is the perfect candidate for a 442 W-30 recreation at a very affordable price. I know all the real Olds guys out there know howhard it is to find a True "Code 26" Viking Blue Cutlass or 442. I purchased this 1972 original Viking Blue Cutlass/442 out of Cudahy, isconsin at the beginning of summer missing the engine and transmission. I'll give a little back round on the 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, utlass S, nd the 442 models. According to the OldsFaqs website that anyone can look up on line, hether this Viking Blue car is a real 442 or a converted Cutlass S body it is still considered to be like a real 442 if it is converted properly. If it were a real W-30 it would have an X in the vehicle identification number. This Oldsmobile has an M in the vin number meaning it was produced in Lansing, ichigan. Also the LAN on the data plate proves this car is Lansing built. The fender wells were only red on the very first 10 1972 W-30's that rolled off the assembly line in December of 1971, o the fender wells can be left black to still have an authentic looking W-30. Prior to the 1972 model year the vehicle identification numbers in all 442's started out with 344. That was the way to determine whether that specific car was ordered from the dealershipas a true442. The 442 could be ordered as a separate model for the last time in 1971. Oldsmobile decided to make the 442 an ordered option starting in 1972. The OldsFaqs website makes the statement that there is no such thing as a fake 442 in 1972. All 1972 442 models came out of the factory titled as a Cutlass, ince the 442 was an ordered option. Whether the car was factory ordered as a 442, r dealer installed, r a private owner installed all the 442 options, hey are all considered Cutlass S bodies. This is why all 1972 442 hardtops have just plain Cutlass on the glove box door. This car has an open, lean, nd clear Wisconsin title that shows the odometer reading was 54,652 on 1/09/87, nd the title was issued on 1/06/93. I have no way to validate the mileage as original, lthough the mileage is exempt in most states for cars over 10 years old. As far as I know this Olds has been off the road for the last 22 years. The engine currently in this car has the proper casting numbers 395558 for what an original 1972 Rocket 350 would have in one of these cars, ut this is not the numbers matching engine. This engine was just dropped in with a turbo 350 transmission bolted to it. I got this engine in another car deal a few years back. It had been sitting on a wooden palate, nd the elderly gentleman I got the engine from said it had been completely rebuilt. Since the car I purchased from that seller ran great I never used this engine, nd thought this would be the perfect car to drop it in. I did open the valve covers up to check it, nd the old guy was telling the truth. Everything looks new inside including new valve springs and push rods. Everything will need to be hooked up by the winning bidder. If the winning bidder would like I do have access to a correct 1972 Rocket 455 396021 F Big Block that came out of a running and driving 442 convertible for an additional $500. This car has a floor shift steering column and does come with the correct shifter and console for a 1970-1972 Cutlass/442 model. I believe this is an original bucket seat console car. The interior looks in relatively decent condition as shown in the pictures. The hood is a General Motors hood. The fenders recently had lower patch panels, nd the doors are in decent condition. The quarter panels look to be the originals and in nice shape. The trunk lid looks in good condition with the original jacking instructions, nd tire stowage decals both still in place on the underside of the trunk lid. The air cleaner cover is nice, ut the air cleaner base needs replacement. There is a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor on this Rocket 350 engine. There is a radiator under the hood, ut I think it will only be good for a core. I know that Advanced Auto has a new radiator for around $100 for these cars. Theseearly 70's muscle cars have incredible investment potential, nd have been referred to as rolling bank accounts. This auction is just in time to buy that muscle car that you have been needing for parts, r if you wanted to have a cool old classic to restore during the upcoming winter. My belief is with some hard work it is possible to have a nice Viking Blue W-30 recreated by next summer. When these cars are done properly they command big dollars if the new owner ever decides to sell. I know this Oldsmobile would be great for parts, ut I would like to see it brought back to its former gloryrather than just beused for parts. I have far too many projects right now and nowhere near the energy I once had. I'm selling this cool old rare Viking Blue classic as needing a complete restoration where every part will need attention to make it into a nice car again. With some luck at the local swap meets mostly all of the needed parts can be found. These parts are also available at a wide variety of new aftermarket muscle car parts suppliers of identicalreplacement parts. The options include power steering, ower front disc brakes, ucket seats and a console. The original dash pad looks in good shape, ndhas an old school AM/FM Cassette player that is not hooked up, owever this dash was not all cut up like was typicallydone tothese cars back in the day. I inspected behind the stereo mounting area, nd if the new owner is really into theoriginality of a factory AM/FM it looks to me as if an original AM/FM were found it would be able to be mounted perfectly in the proper position in the dash. The floors and frame really look in decent condition from everywhere I checked. There was a minor patch done on the drivers side, ut the floors all look as good as the pictures. The trunk floor was coated with spatter spray and looks to be original. The gas tank strap mounts are still sturdy as shown in a picture. The trunk does carry a full size Super Stock II spare wheel with a jack and crow bar on an original mat. There is a set of four raised white lettered tires mounted on 14 inch Super Stock II wheelspainted to match the original body color of the car. Yes, here is a pair of the old school Douglas Grab-N-Go raised white lettered tires on the rear. I haven't seen any of those brand tires for over 30 years. The tires all have decent tread, ut if I were doing this car I would replace them all. All four wheels have the bolt-on center caps, ndall fourbeauty trim rings. The rear-end is a 10-bolt, ut I am not sure of the gear ratio. There is a full set of original stainless steel wheel opening moldings. A lot of the chrome is still very usable on this car, r in drivers quality condition. Basically, hat you see is exactly what you get! These mostly complete older classics that have survived for over 40 years are becoming harder and harder to find. Especially in Viking Blue!! The Nada Classic Car Price Guide currently has the 1972 OldsmobileCutlass/442 listed at $42,800 in high condition, hich theyconsider an excellent overall vehicle that was completely restored, r an original vehicle showing very minimal wear. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $25,800 in average condition, hich theyconsider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint, rim, nd mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a20-Footer! As shown in the pictures I would consider this Oldsmobile currently valued in between the average and low condition, nd could be rated much higher with some hard work. They have the lowest condition value at $18,100 being considered a deteriorated restoration or a very poor restoration, ut mostly usable "As-Is!" The lowest value does not represent a parts car, but would be considered as the price for a car needing a complete restoration. This Oldsmobile is an investment that I believe will continue to rise as these cars have been consistently proven to escalate in value. When these cars are done, hese GM A-Body muscle cars are the finest handling cars I have ever driven. This car is for the guy or girl that always wanted one back in high school, r had one and wants to restore one instead of paying the crazy prices to purchase one already finished. This would be a great father and son project or for a high end classic car restoration shop that knows the values of all the parts on these cars. There is no finer muscle car on the planet in my eyes than the 1970-1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass/442. Here is a prime opportunity to acquire your dream car at a nominal price, r to have all the parts to finish a restoration of a 1970-1972 Cutlass S, utlass Supreme, urst Olds, r a 442 that you may already have. The majority of these parts for these three years are interchangeable. This car is being stored safely indoors out of the elements. The deposit will need to be paid within 24 hours, nd the balance is due within 72 hours prior to the pick-up or transport of this car. The title will be sent out the same day the funds are clear, r kept in the console compartment with the owner's manual for transport. Whichever way the winning bidder decides. The funds that are received will be going to finish up another project that I ran out of funds to complete. That is why I am allowing this car to sell for whatever it brings. I know my descriptions can be a little long winded, ut I try to list and accurately portray everything I can think of when I write a description. This wayevery potential bidder can make the most informed decision prior to placing their bid.If you feel I may have left anything out please ask as many questions as you like. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. Ask questions and you will receive honest accurate answers. I'm a motivated seller, o thishard to find Viking Blue classic muscle car is being offered at "No Reserve" on a 5-day listing, andwill sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening. Thank You for taking the time to read and view my auction!!! Good Luck and Happy Bidding!!!
