Description

The LaSalle was arguably one of the most influential American cars of all time. Introduced in 1927 and designed by Harley Earl, the LaSalle was part of the companion make program, filling the price gap between Buick and Cadillac. Slightly resembling some European offerings such as Hispano-Suiza and Bentley, LaSalle was smaller, sportier and more youthful than Cadillacs, yet retained the elegance expected of an upscale brand. In 1934, the line was given a more modern, stylized appearance sacrificing its European influence. Sales were healthy, but new introductions from Packard and Lincoln stifled the LaSalle. For 1939, LaSalle was again restyled, this time more closely resembling Cadillacs. The Sunshine Turret Top debuted as an early sunroof, again calling out to younger buyers. Sales remained healthy, but 1940 would mark the last full year of production, 1941 seeing the end of the line for LaSalle.

This 1940 LaSalle Coupe has been transformed into a unique street rod featuring a steel body with shaved door handles and remote door poppers. Under the hood is a 350/350 HP small-block V-8 engine breathing through headers and dual exhaust and fed by an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold topped with a 4-barrel carburetor. An automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes make driving a breeze, while an aluminum radiator with electric fan keeps things cool. The engine is well dressed with billet aluminum, braided hoses and chrome appointments.

Inside is a full custom interior by Lyons Custom Trim in Brookville, Ohio, complete with a leather-wrapped Grant Banjo-style steering wheel on a tilt column, distinctive seat covers and door panels. The dashboard is stock, except for the climate controls taking the place of the radio, which has been relocated to the trunk.

Sporting a Mustang II front end; this car cruises easily down the road and makes for easy driveability.

A ton of thought and time have been put into this build, and it shows in the distinct custom options like the sport mirrors and hide-a-way license plate.

This LaSalle has been part of a private collection since 2001, and the car has covered less than 1,500 miles since the build.

This is truly a unique automobile that stands out above the rest!
