Description

AH! Spring is here-perfect time for a sports car ride. However. spring rain can ruin your day in top down. or leaky top sports cars. enter the GT. sports car with a hardtop! After the demise of the Jensen factory in 1976. the company had only produced just 510 examples of the refined Jensen-Healey. in a coupe version (titled a shooting brake in UK). Just over 10. 00 Jensen-Healeys were made. but this line of GTs was the best of the lot. Fine appointments to finish detail. upgraded interior. air conditioning. power windows and convenient hatch with fold down seat area. made this car the perfect combination of sports car and utility vehicle in one. Fitted with the original snappy Lotus 907-4cyl. . 6 valve unit. and 5 speed Getrag transmission. as found in the Lotus & Jensen Healey cars. A true British touring GT with style and finish known to Jensen Motors-manufacturers of the bodies for Austin-Healey. Sunbeam Tiger. Volvo P-1800. Jag XKE. and their own Jensen Interceptor. This car has a smooth comfortable ride and requires only a few minor tasks to get it back to perfect condition. Body and floor are remarkably solid for a 37 year old survivor. Car has been fitted with a new one piece driveshaft which is stronger and smoother than the original two piece unit which wore out easily. In addition. the car has a new HD battery. reconditioned alternator. chrome air cleaners. oil & filter change. fuel tank flushed & cleaned. brakes cleaned and bleed. nbsp;and exterior buffed. Undercarriage has been degreased and pressure washed. Wheels and tires (dated 2006?) in good condition. This car turns heads everywhere. as folks just never heard of a Jensen GT. you will be pleased to be behind the wheel! Facts about this car: This is the 445th GT produced (65 from last car produced) and was completed at the Jensen factory on Feb. 18. 976. It was originally painted Saba Blue (rare color) and carries engine B74-12-10441 (B=Strombergs. built Dec. 1974). Speedometer shows actual mileage 71. 44 (now 71. 47). Rear hatch struts are new and work perfect. with hidden release at driver's door pillar. Note that rear wiper neatly sits in stainless park area. Door sills are covered in stainless finish trim. (You wont' find that on an MGB-GT). The distributor is equipped with Petronix electronic ignition. Headliner could be replaced to primp interior. Car has not been registered since 1987. but has clear Oregon title and it has been garaged since owned. Engine turns over promptly & smoothly. good compression & 60 pounds oil pressure. (See photos at idle and at 3000 RPMs) Most of the electrics have been sorted (new fuse box) and the power windows operate as designed and even the clock is keeping perfect time! Cleaned all fuel lines and filters. and Stromberg carbs which appear to have new rebuild packs. Car is still in need of some minor TLC. as stated above. nbsp;but is a great ride right now. Recent Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car Magazine (August 2014 #108-$4. 95) has an in-depth article on one such example of the original 500+ cars. It will give you some insight into what the potential is of this forgotten Marque . Included with this car is a Factory Original Workshop Manual. a copy of the Owners' Handbook. a wall sized Wiring Diagram. and a custom fit Car Cover. Additionally. some folks have written me to ask if I think the car could make a long trip-in some cases-across the country! I have only driven the car a few miles. as it is unlicenced. but my advise is to trailer or transport the car. This does not imply that it is not up for the task. The car runs smooth. handles well and shifts perfect. However. the tires are about 10 years old and even though they look good . and have lots of tread. I would consider replacing them with todays dated examples.
