Description

VERY RARE & COMPLETE TRUCK ALWAYS STORED INDOORS 1955 CHEVROLET 6400 FULLY FUNCTIONING HYDRAULICS S U R V I V O RR A R E V I N T A G E F L A T B E D C A R H A U L E RORIGINAL MILES 56. 52 N O R U S T This is a rare opportunity to acquire a very solid NO RUST example of a very rare and collectible 1955 Chevy 6400 Hydraulic Flat Bed Car Hauler with original 56. 52 miles on this excellently preserved UNRESTORED 60 year old vehicle. To give some indication as to the state of preservation of this solid utility truck. this car transporter was used in rural Kansas in a low capacity car and small truck hauling jobs up until 2005 where she was parked and remained indoors for the past 10 years. Before its rural Kansas tenure. this vehicle spent the past 50 years in light duty in and around the grape vineyards of Sonoma County. California which explains why the front bumpers; grille face and radiator vents (perfect and unbent) do not even have a dent. and why every fender signal light lense. and reflector is present. ORIGINAL and completely uncracked. as these protrusive implements are very suceptible to breaks (and bends) and are almost never found in place on a utility trucks of this vintage if they were exposed to the brutality of heavy and continuous big city usage. as every knob and implement in the interior cab and exterior is present and would make a high quality restoration quite straightforward and enjoyable. not to mention would easily raise the equity of this museum candidate to well over $25. 00. The very heavy gauge steel body of this mid 1950's Chevy truck is in exemplary preserved condition and that is not to mean you wont find minor dents. scratches in the paint (paint is NOT original) and very minor oxidation in the seams where metal panels meet and abrade. A utility truck such as this was designed and manufactured for very. very heavy usage and could withstand a great deal of abuse. which is why you will NEVER find a better preserved 60 year old unrestored example of an early car hauler. All of the safety glass appear original to the truck and no signs of cracking. but there is a strange "bubbling" on the edges of the "small" side windows which are completely flat and easily replaced. The hydraulic bed operates as it should but there are minor signs of fluid leaks in and around the lever housing and hose connections. and in my opinion all rubber hoses and vacuum lines have age cracking as they appear to be original to the truck and WILL NEED REPLACING! The Dunlap tires all hold air and have serviceable tread. and once the brake lines have been replaced and bled. I think the tires are reliable for a few thousand miles. The ignition key has been lost to time but in the 1950's Chevy utility trucks. keys were not necessary as you just place your fingers on the raised lip of the key entry and start her up. I am certain re keying an ignition key to a 60 year old Chevy truck will not be difficult as technology was very simple then. The truck starts and runs excellently and has been recently taken out of the building and driven around the rural roads and fields in Catharine. Kansas. but again the brakes have to be pumped in order to stop the vehicle. If you are a die hard like myself. and buy the truck and plan on pumping the brakes regularly and drive it home a few hundred miles. please may I reiterate that while this is quite possibly the finest. most solid and complete UNRESTORED 60 year old commercial hydraulic Flat Bed Chevy 6400 that exists. it will still require fundamental brake repair. fluids and/or adjustments before it is safe to operate on public streets. The bed is a capacious 22 feet long and 8 feet wide and as can be seen in the photos the oak board flatbed floors are not beautiful but they were obviously applied with utility in mind first and foremost. The hydraulic pumps still fully lift the massive bed as can be seen in the photographs and operate as they should as does the cable winch at the rear of the cab. but hoses and connections are old and age related stress and will need replacing if this truck is to be used safely and reliably for commercial hauling purposes. My truck is conveniently located in the central United States in area code 67627 in Catharine. Kansas 2 miles off of interstate 70 and I have clear title in hand.
