1953 Allied 1953 Allied “Cisitalia” Swallow Coupe - American Born; Italian Bred

This is a historically important example of an early 1950’s American Sports car. The Allied Swallow debuted in late 1952 is highly collectible and would make a great vintage rally car that would qualify for all events. At the present time cars of this type are welcome at the most prestigious car shows. Alternatively the car could evolve into a superb vintage race car or unique classic. As approximately 25 bodies were produced with a handful of survivors this Allied Swallow Coupe is incredibly rare.

Pedigree: An Allied “Cisitalia” Swallow was the world’s fastest sports car coupe in 1953. Designed and hand crafted by three legendary performance specialists whose work led to creating the world’s fastest sports car coupe in 1953:

* Bill Burke: race car builder and driver who was known for his speed-on-the-salt accomplishments

* Mickey Thompson: race car designer builder and racer - one of the first projects of his career

* Roy Kinch: an expert in fiberglass composite body production

This Car: The Allied Swallow being auctioned is in un-restored condition. It came from the northwest and by all appearances had been a running/driving car that had been put away for many years and a restoration begun. When acquired it had a modern drivetrain which has since been removed to facilitate the installation of a vintage or performance drivetrain by its next owner. The car still has its wonderfully handcrafted original aluminum-cast grill and appointments such as the dashboard roll-up windows and push button door entry. We have not been able to identify the chassis.

Potential: American sport specials are coming into their own. More and more they are seen at vintage races and on the fields of the finest concours in the world - most recently a class of these sports cars appeared at the 2015 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. On May-26-15 at 15:12:10 PDT seller added the following information:

We've heard from several folks who have tentatively identify this chassis as a mid 1950s modified Sunbeam Alpine or Sunbeam Talbot. One person stated their belief as follows (this is their assessment - and the chassis is still unidentified at this time - but we thank them for sharing their experience and assessment of this chassis)."The Chassis is British. It’s based on a highly modified Sunbeam Talbot chassis. The front suspension is stock S-T 90 but the Burman steering box has been modified with a U-jointed steering column. The original S-T unit would have a solid steering column with a stator tube for the steering controls. The under slung rear suspension is Sunbeam Talbot too but the frame side rails look to be fabricated units as the stock S-T chassis is way more massive (and therefore heavy) than this one."
