My adjective in the title is correct. Eshelman Motors used the words Child Sport Car without the lower case letter "s." It was never advertised as a "Childs" or "Sports" car. The Eshelman Child Sport Cars were very very expensive. Only an extremely wealthy family could afford to buy their child-children an Eshelman Child Sport Car. Not only must the family have had immense wealth the buyer had to own anestate farm or haveaccess to a track. The model years of Eshelman Child Sport Cars were1953-1956. With the exception of the 1953 Eshelman all of the front grills had the year of manufacture. Please note that this front grill reflects " '54 ESHELMAN." Eshelman Child Sport Cars were sold by mail order and advertised in the magazinePopular Science.The cost of a 1954 Eshelman Child Sport Car was$295.00 plus shipping.This$295.00cost in 1954equates to$2436.00in2015. I purchased this Eshelman in 1990 and have owned it for 25 years. This is Eshelman Serial Number555. I have not done anything to the car except add premium gas oil changes twice a year and I have driven it in many many parades. As you can see through the grill it still has the OEM 2 Horsepower Briggs and Stratton four (4) cycle engine. To cold start the Eshelman the manual choke knob is pulled out through the large OEM factory hole to the right of the center of the dash. The factory through-the-dash hole for the accelerator cable is accessed near the large OEM hole. To attain speed the accelerator cable is pulled out all the way and half-way for cruising.The handle of the pull start rope is high on the passenger side of the dash. Pull the rope cord the engine will start then slowly push in the manual choke control knob until satisfied with the engine idle. The Eshelman has a through-the dash toggle switch that stops the engine. Once pushed down the engine stops and the toggle switch automatically reverts to its "up" position. Please note thatthisEshelman is able topull a trailer as reflected in the photo of the rear of my 1954 Eshelman. The OEMAero Dart 10 X 2.75hard rubber tires are still on the vehicle. These tires have several small areas where the hard rubber is gone. The tires today are exactly as they were when I bought my Eshelman in 1990. Since I purchased my Eshelman the car has only been driven on smooth streets never on sidewalks. Braking is on the rear wheels by a curved piece of heavy metal and activated by the brake pedal.
